1 month agoStay away from this place! They cut corners and use cheap, non-approved parts while doing installation. We've had our 9 year old furnace inspected and tuned up numerous times, yet have had a recurring problem with the inducer filling up with water leading to total loss of heat in sub-zero weather. We recently called another reputable HVAC company who immediately diagnosed the issue. Instead of using the proper drain tube kit that should have come with our furnace, Tom's substituted a cheap vinyl tube and attached it to a piece of 90 degree PVC pipe, then glued it to the drain trap. This is absolutely NOT recommended as it is very prone to kinking and clogging which was the root of our problem. Even after I brought this to their attention, Tom's stubbornly refused to admit any wrong-doing or take any responsibility for the error. They would not even honor the 10 year parts/labor warranty unless I first paid for a service call. The rude person I spoke to almost insinuated that they are the only ones qualified to service my furnace. How arrogant and insulting! I absolutely refused to hand this company more money just to drive out and tell me they still did nothing wrong. We took our money to a far more knowledgeable competitor and the issue was fixed very quickly. I could have saved hundreds of dollars by ditching Tom's a long time ago. Do yourself a favor and go elsewhere. -

1 month agoThis is a Very Customer Service orientated Family Business. I was pleased with the personal quality service from my first call speaking with Heather the receptionist to Kyle the certified oil furnace technician that did the tune up. They are fairly priced and don't try to sell you! The price is reasonable and they will call you before they come if you want. I highly recommend Tom's Heating Service! -

3 months agoHaving used Tom's for ten years, we are very disappointed to feel the need to write this review. We purchased a new Carrier Infinity HVAC system 10 1/2 years ago. It came with a Ten Year parts and labor warranty. Ran flawlessly for ten years. We had Tom's come out every year to tune up both the furnace and the AC. Four months after the warranty expired, they came out for a furnace tune up. We were told by the service person that our burner was "candling" and the circuit board needed to be replaced. We had Tom's come out the next week to replace it. The first thing the repairman said to us when he opened up our furnace was, "have you had annual maintenance done on this", we said, "yes", he said, "Are you sure"?. Obviously a big red flag that these tune ups we'd been paying Tom's for all of these years were substandard, since they had just been out a week ago to tune it up! Then he proceeds to tell us that Carrier gave its dealers a heads up about this candling issue way before it was diagnosed in our furnace, and WHILE WE WERE STILL UNDER WARRANTY, so Tom's should have looked at it during our last "tune up" and replaced it under warranty. The repair man also found a cracked condensation bucket, which needed to also be replaced which was, also, an issue carrier had previously told its dealers to watch out for. So, four months after our warranty expired, Tom's informed us that two items they were well aware were issues beforehand, needed to be replaced and were no longer covered by our warranty. How convenient! Then there's the comment about our furnace not appearing to have been properly serviced. Tom's has not responded at all to this situation. At the very least, they should have offered to contact Carrier about replacing these parts under warranty, since they were known issues.

FAQ
How does Tom's Heating Service determine pricing for furnace repair or heating installation?
We base pricing on a thorough diagnostic assessment of your HVAC system, including parts needed and labor required for the specific repair or installation. Diagnostic fees apply upfront to identify issues accurately, while full quotes come after evaluating the scope, such as thermostat replacement or full system work. Homeowners can discuss costs openly, as we adjust based on comparable market prices to ensure fair value without hidden charges.
Are you licensed and insured for HVAC work?
Tom's Heating Service employs certified technicians who meet state licensing requirements and carry proper insurance coverage for all jobs. We provide proof of credentials upon request to confirm compliance with local standards and protect your property during service. This setup ensures accountability for any work on furnaces, heating systems, or related components.
Does Tom's Heating Service handle furnace maintenance, thermostat installation, and AC units?
We manage furnace repair, heating installation, and maintenance, along with thermostat setups like Honeywell models and Carrier outdoor AC units. Our scope covers inspecting residential furnace systems with ductwork, performing tune-ups, and installing new equipment from showrooms. These services keep systems efficient through Wisconsin winters and handle both heating and cooling needs.
What should I expect for scheduling and arrival times with you?
We coordinate appointments that fit your availability, providing clear arrival windows to minimize wait times, especially for urgent furnace issues. Technicians like Kyle arrive prepared for oil furnace service or diagnostics, completing work efficiently whether in peak summer for AC or winter prep. Expect communication from reception like Heather to confirm details and updates throughout the process.
Does Tom's Heating Service clean up after HVAC service and handle waste?
We leave your home as we found it by using protective measures during furnace inspections, installations, or repairs and removing all debris at job completion. Waste from old thermostats, packaging, or system parts gets disposed of properly to avoid any mess in your space. This practice ensures a clean worksite from start to finish, focusing on your comfort post-service.
Why is your professional approach better than attempting HVAC repairs myself?
Our certified technicians use specialized tools to diagnose issues like faulty thermostats or furnace inefficiencies that DIY methods often miss, preventing further damage or safety risks. Proper sizing and installation follow manufacturer standards for airflow and refrigerant, extending equipment life unlike common homeowner shortcuts. This method avoids costly errors, such as mismatched parts, and ensures safe operation through harsh winters.
