4 months agoWe've lived in Green Bay for 4 years and public works here is a disaster compared to the other 2 communities we've lived in. Not a single basic service has gone as intended for the duration of time we lived here. We had a highway construction cone delivered our first week that public works confirmed on the phone served no purpose, but refused to pick up for weeks that just killed the grass. It finally got picked up when I emailed the entire city council. That was our welcome to Green Bay moment with city government. Yard waste has gone uncollected through multiple seasons. In 2025 leaf collection was never completed across the entire city and city acknowledged it never would be. When the NFL draft came to town public works asked the citizens to move their leaf piles to the backyard rather than collect them. We've had our garbage inspected by the garbage man, and as result a plastic window blind and multiple cardboard chunks have been left behind in the driveway. But the recycling man never checks his work, and pretty much leaves cardboard behind every OTHER week because that's all we can afford to recycle here (public works is too busy with leaf cleaning for every week recycling I've been told by a previous alderman). They installed a fire hydrant that leaked and caused holes in the dirt right next to the curb on Oneida street. I had to fill out tickets with the Mayor's office after I watched people falling into my yard to get them to fix their work, because nobody does anything when you call them. It seems nobody is accountable at public works and the response is often "contact your alderman." This is laughable as I can show you piles of emails that produce no change in this terrible service. So they are not accountable, and nobody who is responsible for our tax dollars ever holds them accountable. -

1 year agoIt's a shame my taxes go to people who don't do their job until I call and document it several times. -

3 years agoI just called the street department for the 3rd time, about a wheel off our recycle bin. This time, Edith sounded like she cared and was going to send a email to her supervisor.. I said THANK-YOU for the great customer service !!

FAQ
How does City of Green Bay Public Works determine pricing for snow removal services?
Snow removal services by City of Green Bay Public Works are funded through city taxes and provided at no direct cost to residents for public streets and roads. We prioritize plowing based on traffic volume, road classification, and weather severity to ensure efficient use of resources. Homeowners contribute through property taxes, which support these essential public safety operations year-round.
Are you licensed and insured for snow removal work?
City of Green Bay Public Works operates as a municipal department with all necessary city approvals and oversight for public infrastructure maintenance. Our crews use specialized equipment like large yellow snowplows to handle heavy snow safely on streets. We follow established protocols to protect public safety during winter operations.
Does City of Green Bay Public Works handle snow plowing on residential streets and during snow emergencies?
We plow streets, scrape packed snow from residential roads, and declare snow emergencies to keep roadways clear throughout Green Bay. Crews monitor conditions year-round from our hub at 100 N Jefferson St, Rm 300, pushing back snowbanks as needed. This covers the city's network of local streets, primary streets, and alleys for comprehensive snow and ice control.
What is your typical timeline and arrival window for snow removal?
City of Green Bay Public Works responds to snow events based on accumulation levels and storm intensity, with plowing prioritized for main roads first, followed by residential streets. Expect crews to arrive within hours of significant snowfall, though exact times depend on weather conditions and city-wide demands. We apply sand during operations to improve traction on treated surfaces.
What does City of Green Bay Public Works do with snow removal debris and how do you leave the area after plowing?
We push snowbanks back from roadsides and apply sand to icy surfaces, leaving streets cleared for safe passage. Removed snow is stockpiled in designated city areas to avoid blocking driveways or hydrants. Residents should ensure garbage is shoveled out and clear of curbs to prevent interference with plowing equipment.
Why is your professional snow removal approach safer than trying to clear streets yourself?
Our method uses heavy-duty snowplows and trained crews to manage large-scale snow and ice on public roads, reducing risks like vehicle damage from rutted ice or falls on untreated surfaces. DIY efforts on streets can be hazardous due to traffic, equipment needs, and volume of snow beyond personal capacity. We coordinate city-wide to maintain clear paths efficiently, supporting public safety without individual exposure to these dangers.
