4 years agoWoke to find basement floor wet and furnace not working = boiler leaking right over pilot light. And just after a good-sized snow and cold snap. We've had a service contract with them and their predecessor for a long time. My 7.30 a.m. call was returned within 20 minutes, and I had someone onsite within another hour. He brought two small space heaters and determined what was wrong; had another employee verify his assessment. Yes, new boiler. These days they, like many things, are in short supply. In the meanwhile, they brought another two large freestanding space heaters to prevent pipes from freezing. Lots of explanation and updates as the search went on. The new boiler was in a week later, even working on Saturday to get things done - and they cleaned up after themselves. Not cheap, but reliable and honest. Good stuff. -

6 years agoI contracted with Dawson-Dodd to install new ductwork for my unico A/C system and paid 1/2 the cost up front ($4500). They never performed the work. I emailed Patrick Dodd repeatedly over the next 6 months, who generally responded that his installer quit, or that he hurt his knee, or some other excuse, but Dawson Dodd would be out to do the job in the next couple weeks. It has been 2 years and I have never seen or heard from them. I am out $4500. After 2 years I hired another HVAC company to do the work. If you look at the BBB website you can see that they have a number of complaints against them over the last 3 years, and another Angies List reviewer has had the same experience I had. STAY AWAY FROM DAWSON-DODD! -

7 years agoVery badly! The job was never completed even though it was paid in full. It took over a year to finally decide they were not going to complete the work. I had to hire another contractor to finish the job. I had used Dawson-Dodd in prior years; in fact they installed my original a/c system so I trusted them, but should not have because they did not complete the work.

FAQ
How does Dawson HeatinG and CoolinG determine pricing for HVAC services like furnace repairs and AC installations?
We assess pricing based on the specific heating or cooling issue, including parts needed, labor time, and any required materials for Norfolk's climate. Homeowners receive a detailed breakdown to understand costs upfront. This approach ensures transparency for services from furnace repairs to full AC installations.
Do you offer free estimates for HVAC work?
Dawson HeatinG and CoolinG provides free estimates to evaluate your heating and cooling needs accurately. Our team visits your home at 9000 Watson Rd, Ste 103 in Norfolk, VA, or nearby to inspect the system. This allows us to tailor a quote to your exact situation without upfront charges.
Is Dawson HeatinG and CoolinG licensed and insured for HVAC contracting?
We maintain proper licensing and insurance as required for HVAC work in the Norfolk area. This covers services like furnace repairs and AC installations to protect both our team and your property. Homeowners can request verification details during the initial consultation.
What specific HVAC tasks do you handle, such as furnace repairs or AC installations?
We handle a full range of HVAC tasks including furnace repairs, AC installations, and maintenance suited to local needs. Our scope covers diagnosing issues in heating systems and installing cooling units for year-round comfort. This ensures comprehensive care without needing multiple contractors.
How does Dawson HeatinG and CoolinG schedule appointments and what are the arrival windows?
We coordinate scheduling based on your availability and the urgency of heating or cooling repairs. Typical timelines start with prompt estimates followed by service within a few days for standard jobs. Arrival windows are confirmed in advance, usually 2-4 hour blocks, to respect your time.
Why is hiring you for HVAC work safer and better than attempting DIY fixes?
Professional HVAC work follows industry standards for sizing, duct inspection, and refrigerant handling, which DIY often overlooks and can lead to inefficiency or hazards. We use proper tools and methods to verify airflow, static pressure, and system performance post-service. This prevents common pitfalls like improper installations that shorten equipment life or void warranties.
