5 years agoHave budget program for all Bill's, except this one. No matter what the water Bill's is budget wise, they bill me actual cost, very unhelpful. Called both water and sanitation, customer services answers the phone and the above results are the outcome of those calls.

FAQ
How does the City of Newport News Department of Public Works determine pricing for snow removal?
As a municipal department, we provide snow removal on city streets at no direct cost to residents since it is funded through public taxes and budgets. Pricing is not determined on a per-service basis for individual properties but allocated through city planning for public infrastructure maintenance. Homeowners contribute indirectly via local taxes to support these essential services year-round.
Are you licensed and insured for snow removal services?
City of Newport News Department of Public Works operates under full municipal authority, which includes all necessary licensing and insurance for public works operations. Our teams follow city standards to ensure safe and compliant snow removal on streets. This government oversight provides accountability for all infrastructure services we manage.
What specific areas does the City of Newport News Department of Public Works handle for snow removal?
We focus snow removal on city streets, prioritizing hills, bridges, and arterial roads to maintain safe traffic flow during storms. The Street Maintenance Division divides into shifts to target major roads first, ensuring key public routes remain navigable. This approach covers public infrastructure but does not extend to private driveways or properties.
What is your typical timeline and arrival window for snow removal during storms?
City of Newport News Department of Public Works deploys crews in shifts as storms progress, starting with priority routes like arterials and bridges immediately upon snowfall. Expect initial clearing on major roads within hours of accumulation, with ongoing passes as conditions allow. Schedules adapt to weather severity to maximize safety across the city.
How does the City of Newport News Department of Public Works handle cleanup and debris after snow removal?
We clear snow from streets and push it to the sides or designated areas to restore traffic without leaving excess debris on roadways. Plowed snow may remain curbside temporarily until it melts naturally or further maintenance occurs. Residents should avoid piling snow back onto cleared streets to support efficient ongoing operations.
Why is your professional snow removal approach safer than DIY methods?
Our method prioritizes high-risk areas like hills and bridges first using specialized equipment and trained shifts, reducing accident risks on major routes. DIY efforts on personal property lack this coordinated scale and can block visibility or create hazards for plows. Professional handling ensures consistent clearance for public safety without individual exposure to heavy machinery or traffic.
