2 months agoIt's a strange first time experience here for sure. There aren't any signs on where to take your vehicle to unload. The office people are not the friendliest either. You can park along the front of the building visible from the street, Grissom Rd, to go in and ask any questions you may have. What they are paying for materials etc. After that or if you don't want to ask just drive in past the gate and office to an area with 2 to 3 spots to back in or park forward where it's roped off and grocery baskets are lined up to take your items. That's past the sign for recycling aluminum cans . That's the only sign I saw. If items are too heavy men will help you unload but you need to get out of your vehicle and walk up to the line of baskets and wait for someone to talk to you. After you've unloaded your things they will weigh them and then give you a piece of paper with your total that they will pay you. Oh and you need your ID. You move your car and go into office to get paid and that's it. Hope this helps first time goers! -

FAQ
How does Great Northwest Recycling determine what my scrap metal or electronics are worth?
We weigh everything on government-certified scales to ensure you receive fair market value based on current commodity prices. Our scales are regularly calibrated and certified, so you can trust the accuracy of your payment. We handle metals, electronics, cardboard, and other recyclables, with pricing that reflects the actual weight and type of material you bring in. This transparent approach means no guessing-you see exactly what your items are worth before we complete the transaction.
Are you licensed and insured to handle junk removal and recycling services?
Great Northwest Recycling has been operating since 1970 and maintains all necessary certifications for handling scrap metals, electronics, and cardboard recycling in San Antonio. We operate government-certified scales and follow all local and state regulations for proper material handling and disposal. Our long track record in the industry demonstrates our commitment to operating responsibly and professionally. For specific details about current licenses or insurance coverage, you can contact us directly through our website.
Can Great Northwest Recycling pick up scrap materials from my job site or construction project?
We handle pickups from job sites, residential drop-offs, and commercial locations throughout northwest San Antonio. Whether you're clearing a house, demolishing property, or managing construction debris, our team can work with your timeline and logistics. We'll come to your location, assess what needs to be removed, and provide fair payment based on the weight and type of materials. Contact us to discuss your specific project needs and schedule a pickup that works for you.
How quickly can you schedule a pickup, and what should I expect during the process?
Great Northwest Recycling works with your schedule to arrange convenient pickup times for your materials. When our team arrives, we'll assess what you have, load it efficiently, and transport it to our facility for processing. The entire process is straightforward-we handle all the heavy lifting and logistics so you don't have to worry about transportation or proper disposal. Once materials are weighed on our certified scales, you'll receive payment the same day based on current market rates.
What happens to the materials after Great Northwest Recycling picks them up from my property?
We sort all materials into recyclable and non-recyclable categories, then process them responsibly according to environmental standards. Metals, electronics, and cardboard are separated and prepared for reuse or proper recycling, keeping waste out of landfills. Our facility uses industrial equipment like magnetic cranes to handle large loads safely and efficiently. By choosing our service, your discarded materials get a second life while you receive fair compensation for the value they hold.
Why should I use a professional recycling service instead of handling scrap metal and electronics myself?
Professional recycling protects both your safety and the environment. Scrap metal, electronics, and construction debris contain hazardous materials that require proper handling and disposal-something that's difficult and potentially dangerous to do on your own. We have the certified equipment, trained staff, and industry knowledge to process materials correctly while maximizing their value. Plus, you get paid for your materials rather than paying disposal fees, and you avoid the time and effort of figuring out where to take everything.
