We were one of the unfortunate people that had flood damage due to Hurricane Harvey. End result of the flooding was that we had to rebuild the first floor of our home. We opted to use the opportunity to do a little remodeling work in the process. Kaleidoscope came recommended by my neighbor across the street who had already started his rebuilding project. I talked to Jamie from Kaleidoscope as well as two other contractors to secure bids. Kaleidoscope came in cost competitive, but more importantly I felt more comfortable with Jamie than with other contractors. Jamie spent much more time working through the options with me, explained everything clearly and generally gave me much more confidence that this wasn't going to be one of those projects where I felt frustrated and disappointed at the end and was in the dark on what was going on or where I'd constantly have to chase after and push the contractor. That proved to be an accurate expectation throughout the process. While it wasn't a remodeling we would have chosen to take on, it was a good experience. Jamie was always available to talk, work through things, talk through alternatives, talk through costs of different options and I found him to be extremely flexible. His team was very professional, got work done efficiently and did a good job. Where sub-contractors came into play, given strong demand for workers I knew going in that there might be delays or other issues. Any time contractor availability became a challenge, Jamie always had a secondary plan ready to be implemented and everything moved along pretty smoothly. In the end, we had to slow down the project on our end as our insurance adjuster was slow and it began to look likely we'd be finished before ever receiving a flood insurance check. While I'm sure he would have liked to press forward and finish the work, he was more than happy to slow things down and time completion to where we wouldn't be put under a financial squeeze. Since completion, as you'd expect we have had a couple of things pop up and Jamie has dealt with them immediately and resolved the issue. He didn't just disappear once the job was done, he's been available to handle issues as well as to provide advice on things unrelated to the job. The experience was for us so positive that when we needed to tear our our walkway and replace it later on in the year, we went straight to Jamie and were again happy with the results.

Jamie is not your average contractor. He took over our post-Harvey rebuild when we cut ties with our previous contractor. There are bound to be challenges with any project, and Jamie handled them all professionally and with courtesy. Communication was easy and Jamie provided updates often. Would recommend.

While our project faced many challenges, all throughout the process, Jamie was a rock. He produced our goals of a beautiful home with clean lines and high levels of energy efficiency. In his no-nonsense way, he worked through various challenges in the original architect plans and the trials that the city presented. He was in constant contact with us regarding progress and clarifications, and finished our new home in time for our move-in date. I would highly recommend him to anyone wanting a competent, knowledgeable builder.

FAQ

Does Kaleidoscope Design Build, LLC offer free estimates for kitchen and bathroom remodels?

We provide detailed quotes based on the scope of your project, including measurements, materials, and labor needs after an initial consultation. Factors like the size of the remodel, choice of energy-efficient features, and any structural repairs influence the final pricing. Homeowners can discuss their budget upfront to ensure alignment with our custom plans.

Are you licensed and insured for general contracting work?

Kaleidoscope Design Build, LLC carries all necessary licensing and insurance, including general liability and workers' compensation, to protect your property and our team during projects. This coverage handles any incidents like property damage or injuries on site. We maintain transparency by sharing documentation upon request to build confidence in our operations.

Does Kaleidoscope Design Build, LLC handle full home rebuilds after floods including modern features like barn doors and cable railings?

We manage complete rebuilds from flood damage, covering demolition through to modern installations such as wooden barn doors, hardwood floors, sleek cable railings, and energy-efficient designs. Our services include kitchen and bathroom remodeling as part of these transformations. This full-scope approach ensures seamless integration of contemporary elements like clean lines and high ceilings seen in our Heights area projects.

What is your typical timeline and scheduling process for remodeling projects?

We establish a clear timeline at the start, outlining phases like demolition, framing, installations, and final walkthroughs, with buffers for inspections and material lead times. Projects stay on track through our hands-on oversight, addressing challenges promptly as they arise. Expect regular updates so you know arrival windows and key milestones throughout the process.

How does Kaleidoscope Design Build, LLC handle cleanup and debris removal after remodels?

We remove all construction waste and debris daily to keep your site safe and organized, hauling it away responsibly at the end of each phase. Your home is left clean and protected with coverings during work and a thorough sweep upon completion. This methodical cleanup supports smooth progress and minimizes disruption to your living space.

Why is hiring you better than attempting a DIY remodel after flood damage?

Our professional methodology navigates complex challenges like those from Hurricane Harvey floods, delivering energy-efficient, code-compliant results with modern aesthetics that DIY often misses. We coordinate all trades, permits, and inspections to avoid costly errors or delays common in self-managed projects. Homeowners benefit from our patient guidance and on-site presence, ensuring a durable rebuild without the risks of inexperience.
