I have dealt with many contractors in the past and think McKenzie did a great job of both working with me throughout the way and exceeding my expectations. The most frustrating part about working with contractors in Miami is the 'bait and switch' routine that many often practice. When receiving bids for my past projects, I was attracted to the lower bids and couldn't understand why others were so high. After dealing with the lower priced contractors, I learned my lesson by realizing that many masked their high prices in 'change orders' throughout the span of the project. So in the end, a lower priced contractor ended up costing more than a higher bid. When I first inquired about my most recent project, Gavin McKenzie, the owner, and his assistant came to my house and did a primary walk through to discuss the work needed to be done. He is a great listener and made me feel comfortable about his ability to complete the project according to the way I wanted it done. Within one week, as promised, he submitted a professional proposal to me that contained references, a company background, an estimated time line, and the costs of the project. When they began work, his employees were all in clean uniforms, and immediately covered their work areas with paper and tarps. Having my house demolished was a little overwhelming and Gavin put me at ease by telling me the loud noises and mess were only temporary. After they completed the demolition, they began to prep the kitchen, floors, and bathrooms for the installation of the new sinks, tiling, showers, and floors. I was happy that everything was going according to schedule and was always able to reach Gavin with my questions. The employees showed up everyday and were respectful of my home. They were all polite and kept everything clean. In the end, the McKenzie team and I walked through the house and did some fine tuning and minor detail touch ups where needed. I am very impressed with this company and their caliber of professional service and workmanship. I got exactly what I paid for and believe that McKenzie really delivers a special product that is unusual to the Miami marketplace.
