To start, the customer service staff (Erin) and the technicians are excellent. I appreciate the work they did and the support they provided. The one star rating is due to the quoting process and the leadership -- at least the leadership I had contact with. The lack of transparency, high price tag, and inconsistency in quote language are my main issues. For example, I was told that I "had" to get a new thermostat as part of the remedy for my situation. In the quote it included a specific brand/model thermostat, when they came to address my situation I immediately noticed that they were installing a 'Branded' thermostat, meaning it had 'Gahanna Heating and Cooling' on it. This was concerning for me, as clearly they ordered these with their name of it and clearly they were offering/making folks use these. I will be hesitant about doing business with them in the future. Update, 10/28/25: called GH&C due to an issue with the devices they installed, asked them to come inspect. As always Erin was great and scheduled a time. Update, 10/30/25: received a call from Ron, Service/Operations lead, informing me that due to my review they are only coming out to inspect due to the warranty. As a BTC Service Leader, I would have liked for Ron to have asked me about this review and the legitimate concerns I raised.

I had my HVAC installed by Gahanna Heating and Cooling just one year ago, and now it is making a horrendous noise without me doing anything to it. When I called for help, the receptionist on the phone was dismissive and completely unhelpful with scheduling. Even though this was an urgent issue because the unit isn't working properly, she didn't offer to send anyone out for two full days. They couldn't even give me a specific appointment time, only a vague 4-hour window that ended at 4:30 pm... not feasible for anyone working a normal day. Her snobbiness and inflexibility were totally unacceptable. Thankfully, a technician came earlier than expected and he was lovely. But despite the unit still being under warranty, they wanted to charge me over $1,000 just for shipping and labor to replace a blower and wheels. They also told me no financing options were available. After looking up prices online, it's clear their markup is outrageous. It is nowhere near this cost at other places. When I brought this up, they were extremely rude and dismissed me as a customer. I am truly baffled by Gahanna's excessive pricing, rude and inflexible customer service, and apparent lack of loyalty to their customers. I strongly recommend NEVER using this company.

Gahanna Heating and Cooling took $15,000 and left us with malfunctioning equipment For details, I received quotes from four companies in the area and selected Gahanna Heating and Cooling because they seemed to understand the scope and scale of the project and were willing to discuss options. They were approachable and seemingly intelligent on HVAC issues and weren't just trying to sell us. They were not the cheapest and part of the reason they were selected is because they were on Mitsubishi's list of approved installers. We agreed on a contract in March and agreed to delay installation until weather was better since we would be without heating for several days and to accommodate their schedule. The installation began April 8th through April 10th and continued April 15th through the 17th to install a mini-split system with three indoor units and one outdoor unit (Six days). A week after the install, we were able to actually test the system because the temperature warmed up. The indoor unit was covered in ice and the room felt like a walk-in cooler and it was making a terrible sound intermittently. They came out and inspected the system and said the levels were all fine and the tests came back normal. (Day 7). We then paid the full amount assuming that any issues were addressed. A week later and same issue of noise and icing and also water was dripping from the indoor unit onto the floor. They came out with an expert on mini-splits and recharged the system with refrigerant and again and said all tests came back normal. (Day 8). A week later, same issue of loud noise, icing and inconsistent temperatures where one unit is cold and never turns off and other units are blowing out warm air. A tech came back out and found that the wires for two of the indoor units had been crossed during installation. That was fixed and the levels of refrigerant were checked. (Day 9). When we could test the system again, we had the same issues of excessively cold air in one room and warm air in another. Gahanna came back out with representatives from Trane and found no issues with the system other than the pumps and could not recreate or diagnose an issue since there were no codes in the system. (Day 10). We had to purchase window units since this was during the peak of summer. A month later, new pumps and wireless thermostats were installs and the issues persist (Day 11). It's been nearly five months without an operable system. It cannot regulate the temperature and randomly produces excessively cold or warm humid air and the vanes and fan seem to reset themselves. I've held off on this review because I wanted to give them the opportunity to fix the issue. However after 11 days, five months and now they've stopped returning my calls or emails I'm left with no option. We're tired, frustrated, hot, and out a lot of money and time. Our only hope is that we can help others avoid our mistake. Stay away from Gahanna Heating and Cooling or retain a lawyer.

FAQ

How does Gahanna Heating & Cooling determine pricing for HVAC installation and repair?

We provide detailed written estimates that break down all costs upfront, including equipment model numbers, labor, permits, materials, and any additional services. Our pricing reflects the specific needs of your home, which we determine through a thorough evaluation of your system, ductwork, and installation requirements. We're transparent about what's included and what isn't, so you won't face surprise charges when the work is complete.

Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

Gahanna Heating & Cooling maintains the licensing, bonding, and insurance coverage required to protect you and your home. This includes workers' compensation and general liability insurance, which safeguards you from liability if property damage or other issues occur during installation or repair work. We're also familiar with local permitting requirements and inspections to ensure all work meets Columbus-area codes.

Does Gahanna Heating & Cooling install ductless mini-split systems?

Yes, we install and service ductless mini-split HVAC systems, as shown in our installation photos. These systems are ideal for homes that don't have traditional ductwork or for adding zone control to specific areas. Our technicians verify proper refrigerant charge, electrical connections, and airflow to ensure your mini-split operates at peak efficiency and comfort.

What should I expect for arrival time and how long will the work take?

Gahanna Heating & Cooling responds quickly to service calls, with technicians arriving within the hour in many cases. The timeline for installation or repair depends on the scope of work-our team will provide a clear estimate during your consultation that includes how long the job is expected to take. We'll also walk you through the installation-day logistics so you know what to expect and can plan accordingly.

How does Gahanna Heating & Cooling handle cleanup and protection of my home during work?

We protect your home throughout the installation or repair process using drop cloths and shoe covers to keep your space clean. After work is complete, our team removes debris and waste materials properly, leaving your home in good condition. We also conduct performance testing at the end of the job to verify everything is working correctly before we leave.

Why is a professional load calculation important instead of just replacing my old unit with the same size?

A proper load calculation, known as Manual J, ensures your new HVAC system is sized correctly for your specific home. This evaluation considers your home's square footage, insulation levels, window placement, air leakage, local climate, and other factors that affect heating and cooling needs. An oversized system wastes energy and money, while an undersized unit works constantly without reaching comfort levels-professional sizing prevents both problems and extends your equipment's lifespan.
