7 months agoAfter doing DIY cleans for my last several moves, I hired CuraMaids in late December 2024 for a move-out clean. I am big on Google reviews, so I found and contacted several companies with stellar ratings, and although CuraMaids was $50-100 cheaper than all the other companies, the fact that Nina was so kind via phone and text reassured me that I was making the right choice. Suffice it to say that 10 days later, another company was hired to do the job right, and I'm still here feeling like I'm having an out of body experience reading the other recent reviews. I was on a time crunch as we were due to turn in the keys no later than 12/31. When I spoke with Nina on 12/23, I let her know that we were looking to schedule ASAP. Much to my pleasant surprise, she offered to get someone in there that day, but I declined as we still had some trash to clear out of the upstairs rooms. She assured me that they would take care of it, and it was not a problem at all and wouldn't bother them to do this. I still wanted to wait until Sat 12/27 to give us time to revisit the home and clear out some things we had earmarked for donation, etc. That morning, we dropped by to let the two-person crew in (one hour past the scheduled arrival, but I know the website mentions an arrival window instead of a firm arrival time) and pick up some of the items left behind. I saw a vacuum, but cannot confirm it was used, considering I never heard it running and neither did my husband (between us, we were there around 1.5 to 2 hours out of the 4 hour cleaning). Maybe rather naively, I paid without reviewing the house, since as stated we had been at the property earlier and confirmed that there were indeed two women with mops and a vacuum. Still impressed by the good comminication, I asked for pricing on a cleaning at our new house (about 800sf larger). Since I sent the money via Venmo, I paid "goods and services" (did I not receive a service?) and received a text asking me to send them extra money to cover the fee Venmo deducts from the merchant. When I went back that night to inspect the house, I was shocked - the baseboards, blinds and carpet were EXTREMELY dusty, despite them all being listed on the 77-point checklist touted by the company. Apparently, I also made a mistake by not contacting them on Sunday (when they were closed anyway???) since I had to turn in keys on Monday. I spent Sunday evening vacuuming the entire upstairs after paying Curamaids $370 to do so. (See photos for all the dust I picked up from the carpet after beginning with an empty canister) I contacted Nina on Monday to inform her that her crew didn't do such a great job, expecting the same pleasant and professional conversation we had prior. I kept a pleasant yet factual tone and didn't make any demands or requests, as I believe the business owner should decide how they want to rectify the situation. Although I stayed friendly, my hackles definitely went up when I immediately started hearing excuses as to how they couldn't do anything since I had already turned in the keys, I had "already gotten a discount" (???), they "had soooo much trash to remove" (luckily, I have photos to show the before state of the home), and they "have to pay their workers". I mentioned that the blinds, windowsills and baseboards were dusty, which had nothing to do with papers and toys on the floor, then shared photos and videos. I got no response to those texts. Best of all is that the new tenants have discovered a spot on the front of the fridge where the paint was removed, presumably from using an abrasive pad or cleaner instead of stainless steel cleaner, so that is coming out of my security deposit. This was my first time hiring professional cleaners, and unfortunately it just may be my last.
