Andy and his crew are hard-working, honest, professional guys who give you your money's worth! We loved the job they did installing the new (recycled) flooring on the kitchen. Were simply amazed at how gorgeous the old floors turned out!!! There were a few boards that had gotten damaged when a tenant here had a woodstove and singed the boards (yikes, right?). We had a few leftovers from when the house was built (1942) and Andy replaced the burned boards with these. You cannot tell the difference! We were very pleased with Andy's work. Pleasant, easy to deal with, has that the technology for floor refinishing. Don't let these and quot;he didn't call me right backand quot; reviews sway your judgment. Andy is great. We have called him back to do more work. Because we had to get a room ready quickly for a family member having surgery (would be laid up 3 months) and Andy was booked when we needed the job done, he kindly recommended his brother in law's company (Finishing Touch) and they did a great job, also. We would definitely use Andy Cox again and recommend him very highly.

The initial stain was off a bit the first round, but they came back, resanded and got it to match existing floor. They were very good and would recommend to anyone.

I called and spoke to Mr. Cox and he came to my home within a few days. He was very knowledgeable and gave an estimate of price and when the job could be done and how long it would take. He had to work around my cabinet maker, who was slowing Mr. Cox's work down. Mr. Cox did much of the work, himself. Unless I had a question, I only saw them coming and going. They did their work, quickly, and left. They used the "dust free" sanders, which are so clean and there is no residue after they sand. At the end of the job, Mr. Cox came and wanted to know how they had performed. His bill was exactly the amount of the estimate and so was the time the job took. Mr. Cox can be somewhat slow to return calls, but that is the only negative thing I can say about his company. After a couple of calls, I would hear back from him. The work was beautiful. They patched an area on one floor that had been severely burned, the area was about 3 feet long and 3 feet wide. No one can tell now that it was a repair, at all. It blends with the rest of the floor perfectly. His prices are very reasonable and the quality of work is outstanding.

He has returned calls very late, or not at all, in regards to warranty repair. He came out with the builder one time and just shot nails in an attempt to fix the flooring, now the nails are exposed and showing through my living room floor, they are really a hazard. So far, he has been unwilling to resolve any problems.

FAQ

How does Cox Wood Floors & More determine pricing for flooring projects?

We provide custom quotes based on the specific details of your project, including the type of flooring material, the square footage of the area, the condition of your subfloor, and the complexity of the installation or restoration work needed. After an initial consultation where we assess your space and understand your goals, we'll give you a detailed written estimate that breaks down labor and material costs so you know exactly what you're paying for.

Are you licensed and insured?

Cox Wood Floors & More maintains the proper licensing and insurance coverage required for flooring installation and handyman work in Durham. This protects you in the event of accidents, injuries, or damage during the project, so you won't be held responsible for unexpected costs. We recommend always verifying a contractor's credentials before hiring, and we're happy to provide documentation of our licensing and insurance upon request.

What types of flooring projects does Cox Wood Floors & More handle?

With over 12 years of experience, we handle hardwood flooring installation, finishing, restoration, and removal. We also work with recycled and reclaimed flooring materials, and our handyman services extend to other flooring-related projects around your home. Whether you're looking to install new hardwood, refinish existing floors, or remove old flooring, we have the expertise to guide you through the process.

How long does a typical flooring installation take, and when can you schedule the work?

Cox Wood Floors & More provides a timeline estimate during your initial consultation based on the scope of your project. Factors like the size of the area, the type of flooring, subfloor preparation needs, and acclimation time for materials all affect the duration. We'll give you a clear schedule upfront and keep you informed about any changes, so you can plan accordingly and know when to expect the work to be completed.

What should I expect in terms of cleanup after Cox Wood Floors & More completes my project?

We take responsibility for managing dust and debris created during installation or restoration work, using equipment like backpack vacuums to minimize mess throughout your home. Our team cleans up the work area and removes flooring waste so your home is left in good condition. We'll discuss specific cleanup expectations during your consultation so there are no surprises about what's included in the service.

Why should I hire a professional flooring contractor instead of attempting this work myself?

Professional flooring installation requires specialized knowledge about subfloor preparation, moisture testing, material acclimation, and proper installation techniques that vary by flooring type and location. Mistakes in these areas can lead to buckling, warping, or premature wear that's costly to fix. Our experience ensures your flooring is installed correctly the first time, comes with a warranty on our labor, and will last for years to come.
