I needed to have a professional do mold remediation (in Clifton Park, in Upstate NY) when I found Black Mold was embedded in Sheetrock under a tankless hot water heater which I didn't know had a very small leak. I called Rainbow International since their website indicates they are certified and licensed in Mold Remediation. Rainbow (Albany NY) came in, told me the Black Mold they saw in the Sheetrock would require cutting out that section of the wall, and they could in fact eliminate the mold problem. They charge $2500 to cut away about 10 sqr ft of wall(&fix repaint), spray antifungal into the wall and rug around it(didn't even cut away rug to just check under it). Thinking they solved the mold problem as they promised, I stopped running ultraviolet light (contain mold growth/spread). After that I became extremely sick, and had to go to family's place in NYC;where a doctor found he needed to prescribe 3 antibiotics and warn continuation of a problem might require hospital intervention. After getting sick, I called Rainbow. They acknowledged that the illness could've been from continued mold problem, but then blamed this on my "having a lot of things" (I took out of the walk-in closet when I first found the mold)! As the later Mold Inspector said, their job under NY Law was to have a full inspection done BEFORE starting the estimate & work; if for nothing else to professionally determine the extent and details in the Mold Remediation work needed to have the work successfully completed in a thorough manner (that wouldn't leave the issue outstanding afterwards). Rainbow (2 weeks ago) said they would call me back about any next steps they could possibly take to fully solve the problem; I still haven't heard from them after I sent them the Mold Inspector's report along with the "Air Analysis" sent from a laboratory that examined the air samples from the apartment (containing the mold they were hired to remediate)!! Do not hire this company. It is my understanding this isn't up to minimum standards required by NY Law for licensed individuals.

Edit: Upon seeing the negative feedback Rainbow did reach out to me to make the situation right. I was very pleased with the professionalism of both Lauriel and Matthew. They were very empathetic, and understood that there was a huge miscommunication with several parties involved in the home inspection. They reimbursed me for my reinspection fee and also extended the warranty and came by to show me pictures of the attic in its current state, which is mold free. I was definitely impressed with their efforts. The only reason I am not giving 5 stars is when the owner came back by my house he was quite rude to me, making statements such as "you got paid $300 to leave a 1 star review", "you made a review without having all the information, now we're stuck with a 1 star review", with no empathy as to the stress this caused me while I was trying to purchase my home, and as if this was some type of ploy by me to be reimbursed or something. That was very off-putting, but the rest of the process was great. Therefore, I would recommend them in the future as they were committed to doing the right thing. Original: If you are planning to use this company for mold remediation, don't. I am in the process of purchasing a new home. The sellers used Rainbow to remediate mold in their attic before listing their house. After making an offer, I had my own inspector go out to inspect the home. They had found that the mold had come back. I had a separate mold assessor go out to look at it, and they told me how terribly the job was done. Rainbow offered a 5 year warranty on their mold remediation, and we are reasonable people so we figured maybe the first time they had a new technician out, so the sellers had Rainbow come back to redo the mold remediation. I had to pay my inspector to go out there again and reinspect the attic for mold, and lo and behold, the mold is still not remediated. Huge waste of time for both myself and the seller. I'm also out $300 for having my inspector go back a 2nd time. So their 5 year warranty is essentially worthless since they've proven twice now that they are incapable of performing the task. Save yourself the stress, time and money and look elsewhere.

Extremely friendly and professional. This company won't stop until the job is done right. A group of caring individuals dedicated to helping their customers. They did my floors and cleaned up a terrible flood caused by a local plumber. 10/10 recommend.

FAQ

How does Rainbow Restoration of the Capital Region determine pricing for water damage and mold remediation?

We provide custom quotes based on the scope of damage, affected area size, and specific services needed. Every situation is different-whether it's structural drying after a basement flood or black mold removal from sheetrock-so we assess your property in detail before giving you a price. We're transparent about costs upfront, and estimates are free, so you know exactly what to expect before work begins.

Are you licensed and insured for water damage and fire restoration work?

Rainbow Restoration of the Capital Region operates with full professionalism and integrity in all restoration services. We handle water damage, fire restoration, and mold remediation as a family-owned business serving the Capital Region, and our team is equipped to manage complex projects like rapid structural drying and thorough home cleanups. You can trust that we follow industry standards and best practices for all restoration work.

Can Rainbow Restoration of the Capital Region handle mold removal from walls and structural materials like sheetrock?

Yes, we specialize in mold remediation including black mold embedded in sheetrock and other structural materials. Our crew has direct experience removing mold caused by leaks, water damage, and faulty appliances like tankless water heaters. We don't just clean the surface-we address the root cause and restore affected materials to safe, usable condition.

How quickly can you arrive, and what should I expect for scheduling?

Rainbow Restoration of the Capital Region provides 24/7 emergency response for water, fire, and mold emergencies, so we can dispatch a team rapidly when disaster strikes. For non-emergency services, we work with you to schedule at your convenience and keep communication clear throughout the process. Our goal is to get your home back to normal as fast as possible without cutting corners on quality.

What does Rainbow Restoration of the Capital Region do with water-damaged materials and debris after restoration?

We handle the complete restoration process, including cleanup and removal of damaged materials. After we've completed structural drying, mold remediation, or fire damage restoration, we leave your home clean and ready to use-not cluttered with debris or equipment. Our thorough approach means we restore your property to its original state, not just patch the problem.

Why is professional water damage restoration better than handling it yourself?

Water damage spreads quickly through walls, flooring, and structural materials, and moisture trapped inside can lead to mold growth and long-term damage you won't see until it's too late. We use industrial-grade equipment like moisture meters and drying fans to detect and remove hidden moisture that DIY methods miss. Professional restoration also prevents health hazards, structural failure, and costly repairs down the road-plus it's faster and safer than attempting it alone.
