I had an interesting attempt at doing business with Sahara AC & Heating. I got so far as giving a deposit and setting a temporary installation date for a humidification system. Having owned a system before, I knew what I wanted, I did my due diligence, and I was prepared with knowledge and experience. The technician, Lucio, informed me that what I wanted was being phased out and that it could become difficult to get parts. Although I found nothing about this online, I was grateful for the information and took the expert's suggestion to consider another model. All was going well - no problem, otherwise I wouldn't have given a deposit, and Sahara wouldn't have accepted my deposit and set a temporary installation date. Sahara sent me the agreement, I signed it and asked that they sign it and send me a copy. They didn't; instead, they signed the deposit verification line, for which I had already received a receipt, so no signature required. This made me curious and I began to wonder if I'm doing business with a reputable company. I asked myself why a company would not sign their own agreement. Still, I asked again for a signed agreement, thinking it can't be possible that Sahara wouldn't sign their own agreement. I asked three times for a signed agreement and even explained that a valid agreement requires the signatures of all parties; it also helps to make the agreement enforceable. Made me wonder if they don't want an enforceable agreement or if they want an agreement that could be difficult to enforce. In any case, the bottom line is, why not sign your own agreement? Minutes after emailing my third request for a signed agreement, I received an alert from my bank that Sahara credited my account the amount of my deposit. There was no phone call, no conversation, nothing from Sahara, so I reached out to them asking what the credit was for. Sahara owner, Blake Ballard, phoned to tell me he didn't want to do business with me, citing something along the lines of 'things not being right from the start'. I have no idea what he was referring to. If things weren't right from the start, which was only two days ago, how did we get to the point of a deposit, a temporary installation date and multiple email exchanges regarding Sahara not signing their agreement - all in two days? Was the work outside the scope of their experience or expertise? Do they prefer not to have informed customers? Why not sign the agreement? From my perspective, the only thing that wasn't 'right' was Sahara not signing the agreement, as is evidenced in the emails included in this post. It's all very strange and unprofessional, IMO. I think I may have dodged a bullet here, so I'm grateful that they didn't sign the agreement. An aside: Blake Ballard's son, Matt Ballard, owns Sunrise Service Cooling, Heating, & Plumbing, who I also invited out for an estimate (I was unaware of the relationship). Matt told me that his father owns Sahara Air. Blake informed me that Matt told him that he also gave me an estimate. Weird? Given some of the comments made, one might get the impression that there was bad blood between father and son, but perhaps not, since they discussed me with each other. So weird. Caveat emptor! Get a signed agreement. Response to owner's response: That's an interesting angle. They didn't mention that on the phone minutes after the third time they ignored my request for a signature on the agreement. Only after I publicly exposed that they didn't sign their agreement did they come up with that angle, but they get kudos for the CYA effort. Finally word, their agreement doesn't even have a signature and date line for Sahara Air to even sign - see photo. Clearly, it is not their practice to sign their own agreement.

We had an electrical fire in the attic that compromised the HVAC system. Called these folks out and had a great experience with the initial technician fully explaining our options. We decided to replace the entire system instead of trying to repair it, the installation crew came the next day and did a great job. They insured that all walking surfaces were protected and left no trace behind after working for almost 10 hours. Give these folks an opportunity to earn your business!

Sahara Air has been reliable and stable since we started working with them. They have never tried to upsell us or get us to buy items/services we don't need. They have a membership program that allows you to get discounts if you purchase regular HVAC servicing with them (2x/year). Super helpful and timely.

Update 4 years later: Sahara Air is still the BEST! Obviously after our first encounter (below) when our unit actually did stop working we called Sahara Air again. To complete our due dillegence we also got 2 other estimates. Sahara Air was a whopping $7,000 LESS than major competitors. All expectations for excellence were met. The completely new system is in, it's running perfectly, and just passed inspection. They really have impacted our family in a big way by saving us so much money. Thank you to the entire team. (Original review) Sahara Air saved us thousands of dollars. Our air stopped working and we had our "regular" service company come out. Long story short they said we needed at minimum a $1,100 repair up to a whole new unit. I called Sahara Air to compair the est, and Matt was so friendly and helpful I decided to have them come out and give us a second opinion. The tech was super professional and knew what he was doing, within moments he asked my husband a few questions and determined our unit had simply overheated. He gave it a once over, fired it back up and it's working perfectly. They even waived the service call fee. Thankful is an understatement. 100% recommend!!!

FAQ

Does Sahara Air Conditioning & Heating Las Vegas offer free estimates for HVAC services?

We provide detailed quotes based on a thorough inspection of your system, including factors like unit age, ductwork condition, and specific needs for installation or repair. This ensures accurate pricing without hidden fees. Homeowners can schedule an assessment to get a clear breakdown of costs for services like air conditioning maintenance or new system installations.

Are you licensed and insured for HVAC and electrician work?

Sahara Air Conditioning & Heating Las Vegas holds the necessary licensing and insurance required for HVAC contracting and electrical services in Las Vegas. Our team carries certifications for handling refrigerants and performs work that meets local codes. This setup protects your property during installations, repairs, or duct cleaning.

Does Sahara Air Conditioning & Heating Las Vegas handle specialized HVAC tasks like computer room cooling and rooftop units?

We manage comprehensive HVAC solutions, including system design, installation, maintenance, and specialized services such as computer room cooling and rooftop units for both residential and commercial spaces. Our technicians use professional tools to diagnose outdoor units, repair furnaces, and install air handlers with ductwork. This covers ductless split systems, humidifiers, air purification, and complete change-outs tailored to your needs.

What should I expect for arrival times and scheduling with you?

Sahara Air Conditioning & Heating Las Vegas schedules appointments with clear arrival windows and arrives promptly for diagnostics, repairs, or installations. Technicians present options, explain troubleshooting steps, and complete work efficiently, such as checking multiple systems if the issue is intermittent. You receive updates on timelines from initial visit to service completion.

Does Sahara Air Conditioning & Heating Las Vegas clean up after HVAC service or installation?

We leave your space clean by removing debris from repairs, installations, or duct cleaning, ensuring no mess remains in attics, parking areas, or indoor areas. Technicians handle waste like old motors or unit parts responsibly. This practice keeps your home or business comfortable and tidy after every job.

Why is it safer to hire you for HVAC repairs instead of doing it yourself?

Our professional approach involves systematic diagnosis with tools like multimeters to identify issues accurately, avoiding guesswork that can damage components or create hazards. We explain intermittent problems, such as flashing units, and extend equipment life through honest maintenance on aging systems like 20-year-old compressors. DIY attempts risk electrical shocks, refrigerant mishandling, or inefficient setups that increase energy costs and safety concerns.
