3 months agoI received bids from 3 different contractors for adding blown-in fiberglass insulation in my attic, because an energy audit revealed it was severely inadequate. Ed's bid was not the lowest but was within a reasonable range. He informed me that I did not need baffles to ensure continued air flow from the soffit vents. Other bidders included baffles, but I took his word on that. I did let him know that I wanted the insulation dam that that the two other written bids included in their proposal. This was important to me because the attic access at the master bedroom closet was the access point I have used many times in my 20 years in my home. On the day the work was scheduled he arrived about 3 hours late to begin the work. He told me personal business delayed him. When I tried to confirm with Ed that I could access my attic through the master bedroom access he became unresponsive until I let him know I required an answer. At this point he told me he may have buried it in insulation and he did not build the dam I required. Although I am glad to have to insulation, I could have had the job done to the same R value for less money with the required access dam and baffles to insure adequate ventilation. Instead, I will now have to envelope the entire perimeter and floor of my master closet with tarps and prepare myself to be covered in fiberglass so I can build the insulation dam that I need. It did not occur to me at the time that his late arrival would mean I might not get all that I expected. I am not happy about this at all, and his lack of responsiveness could have led me to an unexpected and unprotected shower of fiberglass when I need to access the attic.
