1 year agoThe Clarksdale city government's blatant attack on the First Amendment is an absolute disgrace. Running to a judge to get a restraining order against a news agency-just for doing its job-proves that these officials are not public servants but thin-skinned authoritarians who can't handle accountability. The First Amendment exists specifically to prevent power-hungry officials from silencing the press, and yet here they are, proving exactly why it's needed now more than ever. Let's be clear: trying to suppress journalism because it makes you look bad is the hallmark of a dictatorship. If you don't like what's being written about you, then stop being the kind of government that people need to criticize. Instead of fixing their failures, Clarksdale's leadership has chosen to abuse the legal system in a desperate attempt to muzzle the truth. Whoever approved this unconstitutional stunt should be removed from office, and the judge who enabled it should be taken off the bench and barred from ever practicing law again. This is an egregious abuse of power, and Clarksdale deserves better than a group of officials who think they're above the Constitution. Please note that this review is an opinion, which is protected by the first amendment -

1 year agoWould rate zero stars if I could. Local "leadership" has orchestrated an attack on the free press, which is a direct violation of the 1st Amendment of our Constitution, not to mention the fact that the US Supreme Court ruled on New York Times v. Sullivan in 1964 that, in order to sue for libel or defamation, public official plaintiffs "must demonstrate actual malice with 'convincing clarity which the constitutional standard demands.'" The joke of the TRO issued by that joke of a judge hardly meets such a standard, especially given the fact that in the affadavit they filed with the court, city officials ADMITTED FAULT. They ADMITTED that they failed to notify the city of the meeting as dictated by their own law and statute. Do yourself a favor and skip this town. -

1 year agoMy opinion is: The judge that issued the TRO needs to be disbarred. Let's contact the State Bar and see what their opinion is. She needs to lose her law license forever for disregarding the First Amendment of the Constitution. Next she will issue a TRO against Google Maps.
