3 years agoI didn't have a positive experience with Handyman Helper, but Alexander was quick to respond and remediate. After all, that is what is needed (and frankly, expected) in the service industry. I reiterate that this is a direct reflection of my personal experience and is open to interpretation. I hired Handyman Helper to perform diagnostics and if agreed, electrical work at my residential home. The electricians came out and identified six (6) projects that could be done that day (i.e., swap out light switches, replace a ceiling fan with a standard light etc.). When it came time to discuss pricing for each of the projects, the electricians discussed amongst themselves and then quoted us at $550 for six (6) projects. We went back and forth on the jobs (some were more important than others) and eventually agreed on doing five (5) projects for $400. The guys were not able to provide a breakdown of time, materials and overhead costs associated with each of the projects so I called Alexander for clarification on the quoting process. Alexander told me the guys did not take overhead costs into consideration and "we all need to put food on the table". He said the five (5) projects should have cost $1,558 and he was not sure why the electricians were providing quotes to me directly. Alexander did give me the five projects at $599 to make up for the communication error, so that is greatly appreciated. In my opinion, a more transparent quoting process is needed. We went from a $400 quote to a $1,558 quote for five (5) jobs in a matter of minutes. As a first-time homeowner, the quoting process was intimidating and difficult to navigate. As for Alexander, he demonstrated a pattern of passive aggressive behavior and defensiveness. Based on my experience (and his responses to the poor Google reviews on this site), he struggles to take direct responsibility for mistakes. He told me that he was not happy with the way I treated him on the phone, as I pointed out two mistakes that were made to which Alex responded, "neither of which I had control over since I found out about them after the fact". In summary, I told Alexander I'm really appreciative of the quote remediation and the work done overall. However, I won't be using Handyman Helper again. In another display of defensiveness, Alexander responded, "At this point we are not interested in working with you and ask that you contact another company in the future". Unfortunately, I've been gaslighted/bullied into leaving positive reviews for people when my experience was anything but (i.e., for a host on Airbnb). I'd say Alexander's response to this review will give you a good read on character and professionalism. -

6 years agoAlexander and his crew came out to frame my basement. Alex had many good ideas and suggestions. The crew was always prompt and on time. The work they did was outstanding! I am very happy with the quality of workmanship. Also, Alexander and his crew are very polite and courteous. I will need some drywall installed in the next week or so and will gladly hire Handyman Hero for the job!
