4 months agoAbsolutely stellar job on a tow hitch install. Great communication, honest and professional. Despite uncertainty due to my tricky vehicle, they completed the work under the estimated time and were transparent when invoicing-a rarity these days and very much appreciated. Their careful and skilled work saved me hours of frustration. Highly recommended. -

4 months agoSo, I own a business and I had a few jobs going this weekend. Last week, I rented a trailer for the first time from Handyman Rental because it seemed convenient to give them a shot. Everything was smooth at first-the guy on the phone, I think his name was Ben, was a bit awkward and didn't really understand what I was asking, but I made it clear I'd be in to pick up a trailer within the hour. He asked a bunch of unnecessary questions, but whatever, I went and picked it up without overthinking it. I just figured maybe he was new or had some social anxiety, who knows. Now, here comes the issue. The second red flag was that when I got there, he didn't really explain the charges well. It was Sunday, and they were closing in an hour, but I ended up having to rent it for the following day too. No big deal at that point-everything seemed fine, I used the trailer, returned it on time, and all was good. A couple of days later, I needed a trailer again for a half-day job on Saturday. They said they had one option available, so I took it. But when I backed up to this trailer, it looked like it was in terrible shape, like it shouldn't even be on the road. I figured I'd only need it for a few hours, so I just went with it. Well, the job ran a bit longer than expected. I was going to be about 10 minutes late returning it. I called, and they said that was fine. But when I got to the dump, the trailer wouldn't go down after dumping. I spent 45 minutes messing with it until it finally decided to come down. I left them a voicemail saying the trailer was unsafe and I wouldn't use it again the next day. Fast forward, I ended up hiring another company the next day, no issues at all. But when I returned the trailer on Monday, the same guy, Ben, started arguing with me as if it was my fault it didn't work. Then another guy came out acting tough, and they basically tried to tell me everything was fine with their trailer and the problem was on my end. It was absolutely ridiculous. I feel bad for the business owner of this company. Hard working I bet to get where he is and to have this type of customer service , not listening to me, blaming me. Your trailer is unsafe, I'm doing me and the next guy, or the innocent victim a favor letting you know it's inoperable, I could care less about being charged. But those guys man, have no people skills and I'd never let handle your customers again. Over a simple thing you just lost all my future business, and anyone else who reads this. Stay away from here. Will gladly remove this if the owner decides to reach out and address the unprofessionalism of his staff. -

FAQ
How does Handyman Rental determine pricing for hitch installation and brake controller work?
We provide custom quotes based on the specific details of your vehicle and equipment. For straightforward installations like standard hitch setups, we can often give you a price estimate over the phone. More complex jobs-such as installing a hitch on a tricky vehicle configuration or diagnosing brake controller issues-may require an in-person assessment so we can evaluate the work involved and give you an accurate quote before we begin.
Are you licensed and insured to perform trailer hitch and brake controller installations?
Handyman Rental operates as a professional service provider in Portland, ME, with a team experienced in vehicle and equipment installations. We recommend asking about our specific licensing and insurance details when you contact us or visit our location at 357 Riverside Street, so you have complete confidence in the credentials of the technicians working on your vehicle.
What types of equipment can Handyman Rental help me with besides trailer hitches and brakes?
Beyond trailer hitches and brake controllers, we handle quick fixes and installations for vehicles and landscaping gear. Our team works with various equipment setups to get your tools and vehicles ready for the job. If you're unsure whether we can help with a specific piece of equipment, contact us directly and we'll let you know what we can do.
How quickly can you typically get me in for a repair or installation?
Handyman Rental prioritizes fast turnaround on service requests. Our team can often diagnose and resolve brake controller issues within 10 minutes of your arrival, and we work efficiently on hitch installations to minimize your downtime. For the most accurate timeline on your specific job, call ahead or stop by our Portland location so we can assess your needs and let you know when we can get you sorted.
Does Handyman Rental handle the cleanup after completing installation work?
We take care of the work itself and ensure your vehicle or equipment is ready to use when you leave. Our focus is on getting the job done right and leaving you with a functioning hitch, brake controller, or repaired equipment. If you have specific questions about cleanup or waste removal related to your particular job, our team can discuss that with you when you schedule your visit.
Why should I have you install my trailer hitch instead of attempting it myself?
Professional hitch installation ensures the work is done safely and correctly the first time, which is critical since improper installation can affect towing safety and vehicle performance. Our technicians have hands-on experience with various vehicle configurations and can handle tricky setups that might be difficult for a DIYer. We also have the right tools and diagnostic equipment on hand, so you avoid the hassle of sourcing parts and troubleshooting on your own.
