11 years agoYes, I recommend this pro $1,580 Seven years previous I had to rip out two layers of vinyl flooring and the particle board substrate in the kitchen and laundry rooms of my home due to infusion with mold, leaving me down to the tongue and groove subfloor, which I cleaned, colored and waxed to seal. I stuffed every blessed groove between the boards with sisal (glued in with wood glue), waxed those in also, and eventually used nearly a pound of deck screws to tighten the boards to the floor joists removing all squeaks. Last spring I began to replace the floor. Theresa at Cover Works troubleshot the project for me, helping me select a flooring which was green, no VOC's, would withstand kitty hijinks, be easy to clean, and look great. She was wonderfully patient. I lined up another contractor to install the vapor barrier and A/C fir plywood substrate, as he was to also cut and fit the base but not install it, so I could primer and paint it before the floating flooring was installed, then follow along and install it against the walls. This turned out to be a bad choice as that contractor did a terrible job with the substrate and didn't do the base at all. Cover Works were very good to tell me how the substrate would need to be fixed before the flooring could be installed: considerable work on my part and theirs. They were extremely busy that time of year, but pulled rabbits out of hats to make this all work. Kyle, their installer, did a fantastic job of bringing a disastrous substrate job up to the point we could make it work with the vinyl tile flooring I'd chosen if we also installed an underlayment pad beneath, which they'd said would be necessary to help since floating the floor with the concrete mix to smooth out the terrible substrate -- the bad contractor used C/D full of blows, checks, knots and cracks -- was impossible to completely smooth. Kyle installed the tiles perfectly. I've seen this type of installation suggested as DIY: ha. He used pry bars and mallets to fit every seam absolutely tightly. Every seam is perfect. They are actually more water tight than tiles set in adhesive would be. The floor is now smooth, quiet, solid and beautiful. If anyone is interested, the flooring is Moduleo vinyl tile with a 30 year warranty. It comes in a wide variety of styles. I could not be more pleased. Everyone was patient, kind, professional -- and after final payment they sent me a thank-you note!

FAQ
How does Cover Works determine pricing for handyman projects?
We assess each project individually to determine whether we charge by the hour or by the job, depending on the scope and nature of the work. Once we understand what you need-whether it's drywall repair, carpentry, flooring, or window treatments-we provide a detailed estimate so you know the cost upfront before any work begins. This approach ensures you're not surprised by unexpected charges and can budget accordingly for your home improvement needs.
Are you licensed and insured to perform handyman work?
Cover Works maintains the necessary credentials and insurance coverage to protect both your home and our team while we work on your property. This means that if anything goes wrong during the job, you're covered and won't be liable for injuries or damage. We recommend always verifying that any handyman service you hire carries proper licensing and insurance before signing any agreement.
Can Cover Works handle specialized projects like screened enclosures and outdoor structures?
Yes, our portfolio includes complex projects beyond standard handyman work, including screened pool enclosures, sunrooms, patios with pergolas, and fence installation. These projects demonstrate our ability to manage both structural work and finishing details with precision. If you have a specific project in mind-whether it's a major renovation or a smaller repair-we can discuss whether it fits within our scope of services.
What should you expect for scheduling and arrival times?
Cover Works works with you to find a convenient time for your project, and we respect your schedule by honoring appointment windows. The more advance notice you provide, the better we can accommodate your needs and ensure our team arrives prepared with the right tools and materials. For projects that span multiple days, we'll discuss the timeline upfront so you understand when work will begin and how long it will take.
How does Cover Works handle cleanup and debris removal after a project?
Our commitment is to protect your property and maintain cleanliness during and after the work is completed. We remove debris and leave your home in good condition once the job is finished, so you don't have to deal with the mess. The specific cleanup process may vary depending on the project type, but we always ensure your living space is respectful and ready for you to use immediately after we leave.
Why should you hire a professional handyman instead of tackling projects yourself?
Professional handymen bring specialized knowledge, proper tools, and experience that ensure work is done safely and correctly the first time. DIY mistakes-especially with electrical work, plumbing, or structural repairs-can be costly to fix and may create safety hazards. We handle the technical details and heavy lifting so you save time, avoid potential damage to your home, and get results that last for years rather than months.
