I had the HVAC system replaced by this company in 2012 and since that time, I had to have these guys come out about 24 times. Most of that was due to the freon leaking. I had this company come out to perform the spring and fall checkups, but after they checked the system and gave it a good bill of health, my AC would either stop cooling or couldn't keep the house cool enough. I would then call them to send someone out and the guy that they sent, which tended to be a different person from the one who did the check, tells me that the freon is low. During this time period, I would get into heated arguments with the techs and the owner, because he would try to make me pay for parts that went bad, such as the compressor or to pay for the freon replacement. After years of frustration with this company, I contacted Rheem and asked them if I could use a contractor, because I still had a parts and labor warranty with this company. They told me that I could use anyone on their approved vendor list. I then paired contractors on their list to Angie's List and then choose the best one that I could find. I had the new contractor come out to perform the spring inspection on my Rheem HVAC system and he found that once again the freon was low. After he discovered that the freon was low, I told him all of the service calls that I had to make to the company that installed the system and the work that they did. After getting the make, model and year of the unit in the garage, he then called his company and they confirmed his suspicion. He informed me that his company has replaced hundreds of the coils for these units and they are known for their corrosion. Since I still had a labor and parts warranty with AllState, I had to go back to them for the labor part of the warranty. The tech came out from AllState and I told him of the other techs findings and he immediatly dismissed his findings. I told the AllState tech that out of all the visits that they made and the parts that were replaced or repaired, the coil was the only thing that hadn't been looked out. He grudently looked at the cool and discovered that it was leaking. He called his office to see if they had any coils in stock and they told him that they had only one, because Rheem was having trouble producing enough replacements. The tech removed the old coil and then the next day, brought the new coil and installed it. All this waste of time and frustration could have been avoided had this company had better skilled techs to properly diagnose the problem. On top of that I still got charged for labor and parts, even though the HVAC system is still under a labor and parts warranty. I also got charged a $70 freight charge for the coil, a $85 for a second liquid dryer(even though my system already had one, that still attached to the line) and $40 for a pound of freon. I called the owner, spoke to Heather and told her I wanted to talk to him about the charges and I have yet to get a call back.

I'm a tenant, so the first thing they did was wrap up the furnace so it blows in the vent instead of the garage. He did a really good job on that. It basically took 2 weeks to get my stuff repaired with like 5 or 6 service calls and it wound up being about 5 hours of work. I don't know why they couldn't do it all in one day. Time of service was an issue. The owner is really nice and does really good work. He's compassionate to his customer.

The engineer came in , checked my furnaces for a couple of minutes and then went to the back and checked the condesors. He removed the panel and checked the air pressure and said everything is ok with one unit and the other unit needs to be replaced. The whole time spent on this was about 10 minutes. I see them billing him for one hr and then saying its 18 pt inspection but nothing in detail was done. nothing in detail as to what was actually done was explained. money should be hard earned whether its you or me. if you are doing 18 pt inspection then in future let me know what exactly was did . i would recommend a checklist or something .. in that way i know what needs to be replaced vs what is good. and dont be in a hurry to say replace the unit. in this economy nobody has the luxury to throw a few thousand bucks without seeing if something else like a repair can be done on the units. again unless you are more honest and detail oriented you will lose business to other good rated companies in the metro

FAQ

How does Allstate Heating & Cooling determine pricing for HVAC work?

We provide detailed written estimates that break down all costs upfront, including equipment model numbers, labor, materials, permits, and any additional services. Our estimates are transparent and itemized so you understand exactly what you're paying for before we begin work. We're happy to discuss your budget and can explain the reasoning behind our pricing based on your specific system needs and home requirements.

Are you licensed, bonded, and insured?

Allstate Heating & Cooling maintains proper licensing, bonding, and insurance coverage to protect you and your home. We carry workers' compensation and general liability insurance, and our team is familiar with local permitting requirements and inspections in the Lexington area. You can request proof of our credentials at any time, and we're happy to verify our certifications before we start your project.

Does Allstate Heating & Cooling handle both residential and commercial HVAC systems?

Yes, we service maintenance, repair, and installation for both residential and commercial heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems. Our experience includes everything from standard home furnaces and air conditioning units to commercial air handling units and heat exchanger systems. Whether you need work on a single-family home or a larger commercial property, our crew has the expertise to handle your specific setup.

What should I expect for the timeline and scheduling process?

Allstate Heating & Cooling works with you to establish a clear timeline from initial estimate through installation or repair completion. We communicate expected arrival windows and explain any steps that might affect scheduling, such as permitting or inspections required by local codes. Our team will walk you through what to expect on service day, including how we'll protect your home and when the work will be finished.

How does Allstate Heating & Cooling handle cleanup and protection of my home during service?

We take care to protect your home during all work by using drop cloths, shoe covers, and proper containment of debris. Our crew cleans up after themselves and ensures your home is left in good condition once the job is complete. We also properly dispose of old equipment and materials according to local regulations, so you don't have to worry about waste management.

Why is professional HVAC installation better than a DIY approach?

Professional installation ensures your system operates at peak efficiency and safety, which DIY work typically cannot achieve. Improper installation can reduce system efficiency, shorten equipment lifespan, and create safety hazards with refrigerant handling, electrical connections, and ductwork. We follow industry best practices including proper refrigerant charge verification, correct line set sizing, condensate drain installation to code, and system performance testing-all critical steps that require specialized tools, training, and EPA certification.
