Doctor Cool is the worst HVAC company you can hire. One of their technicians came to diagnose my AC unit and in 5 minutes he told me that I need 7lbs of freon and it's gonna cost me $980. I went ahead and got 3 different opinions from other companies and they all told me that the compressor was burned and the unit needs to be replaced. When I called the front desk again, the lady there said " I don't know what to tell you. That's what our technician found" They onky want to hustle people for money and they don't do their job properly. They are absolutely incompetent and worthless. If you want to keep your money, don't hire Doctor Cool because they are in the scaming business.

He took the thermostat off the wall and that disconnected it and the fan shut off, but he didn't replace the thermostat and left if on our kitchen counter. He tried to tell me there was only one compressor valve on our unit when I'd had an independent 3rd party not associated with American Home Shield come out 4 days earlier and he had found that there were two valves sending conflicting information to our unit (which was frankensteinded in by Air Pro Masters (who are total scam artist also) but here's the thing... when I whipped out the photo I had of the two valves on the same line, I said "why don't we go back up and look at it together because maybe you just missed it"... he refused and wouldn't write on the paper what was actually there. He just wanted to write "the unit is older and inefficient but fully functional" mind you it blows out at the coolest 78 degree air, has two compressor valves that could be passing liquid rather than gas to the compressor and he had to take our thermostat off the wall to get our fan to turn off. When I tried to get him just to write that the thermostat was the issue with the fan on the paperwork he wouldn't and then he told us what we should do is this "go to the Better Business Bureau about Air Pro Masters and what they did with the unit and coolant that wasn't needed and is now wrong, then if they won't fix it, go after them in small claims or if you know an attorney who's reasonable." He then told us he COULD not write anything else on the work order about the two valves or the faulty thermostat or his office would just remove it anyway because American Home Shield doesn't want them to find anything they would have to contribute to a new unit for..." directly from his mouth he told us this is a scam and that no matter what's wrong with our unit, he cannot say he's fond anything wrong with the unit. I pleaded with him and he said he needed to make a call to his office and went out to his van and promptly left without even having us sign the work order, on which he apparently wrote - according to American home shield - that the unit is older and inefficient but otherwise in working order. ... while our faulty thermostat sits on our sink and the unit has to be turned off at the breaker and all the vents have to be closed to keep the 106 degree air out of our 90 degree house. See the pics attached! It's crazy!!! If you're experience has been similar I'm thinking class action legal action!

Used Doctor Cool for the first time and was extremely pleased with the results. Jesse very quickly diagnosed my A/C outage as a failed furnace control module on Wednesday 8/15 and Eric and Nate returned the next day Thursday to install a new control module and get me back in cool air. They all did a great job and I heartily recommend Doctor Cool for HVAC work.

FAQ

Does Dr. Cool Climate Control HVAC offer free estimates for HVAC repairs and installations?

We provide detailed quotes based on the specific diagnosis of your heating or cooling system, including factors like refrigerant levels and parts needed. Pricing varies by job scope, such as ductwork repairs or thermostat replacements, to ensure transparency. Homeowners can expect an upfront assessment before any work begins.

Are you licensed and insured for HVAC and electrician services?

Dr. Cool Climate Control HVAC carries full licensing and insurance as required for HVAC contractors and electricians serving the Joliet area. Our technicians are equipped to handle installations, repairs, and maintenance safely. This coverage protects your home during services like furnace module replacements or air quality testing.

Does Dr. Cool Climate Control HVAC handle ductwork installation and refrigerant level checks?

We manage ductwork installation and repairs in attics or utility rooms, along with precise refrigerant level checks on outdoor condenser units. Our team also programs thermostats and performs energy-efficiency upgrades. These tasks ensure proper airflow and system performance year-round.

What is your typical timeline for diagnosing and repairing an AC outage?

We aim to diagnose issues like failed furnace control modules quickly, often on the same day, with repairs scheduled promptly afterward. Arrival windows are confirmed in advance to fit your schedule in Joliet. Complex jobs involving multiple technicians may span one to two days.

Does Dr. Cool Climate Control HVAC clean up after HVAC maintenance or installation jobs?

We remove all debris and waste from services, such as old thermostats or ductwork scraps, leaving your home clean and tidy. Technicians ensure workspaces like kitchens or attics are restored to their original condition. This practice minimizes disruption during indoor air quality testing or furnace work.

Why is hiring you safer than attempting HVAC repairs as a DIY project?

Professional approaches use specialized tools for tasks like checking refrigerant or handling freon, avoiding risks like improper charging that can damage compressors. Our methodical diagnostics prevent overlooked issues, such as disconnected thermostats causing fan shutdowns. DIY attempts often lead to higher costs from further system strain or voided warranties.
