The only reason I didn't give them 5 stars is because we ended up not going with the floor we had purchased but they were very accommodating in the return process - just please be aware of the return policy for the flooring prior to purchasing. Or order a box to see it in person prior to order several 100 ft of it, just in case you don't like it.

When installers say you're looking too closely when asking for a fix, it's time to examine everything. My Family Carpet experience was good only with the sale and the carpet. Installation of over 230 yards in 4 rooms and 2 stair cases at a cost of over $11,000 was horrible where craftsmanship was needed -- seams, stairs and room transitions. In short, they butchered my front grand stair case with mis-aligned and improperly cut carpet and used staples that were left exposed. In other rooms, many seams were faulty, and all room transitions had ripples due to use of tack strips designed for concrete in front of and in addition to existing tack strips and bad cuts. The concrete tack strips aren't designed for wood floors and will pull if stretched too tight. They came back to a fix a few issues (hence the comment that I was looking too closely), but could not address the stairs or seam ripples that began to appear a bit later. After 1 month, I invited Mike - the owner - to come see his company's work. He agreed that not only were repairs needed, but the entire front grand stair case needed to be replaced. Thank goodness -- a good response as I had expected from Mike. After waiting 4 months and some prodding, they finally sent a guy who had over 35 years experience to remove the front stair carpet. His instructions were to return it to the shop so that they could use as a template for new carpet. Even this experienced professional agreed that it couldn't be used as a template because it was cut so bad. He said "all professionals know that old carpet cannot be used as a template - it requires careful measuring". In addition, I told Mike when scheduling this replacement, that I could not agree to having my front stair carpet removed from the house without having replacement carpet on site - especially before a holiday weekend. They never fixed the other issues either. At this point and fed up, I asked Mike to provide the carpet so that I could have it professionally and correctly installed. They agreed and within a couple days delivered 3 rolls of carpet -- unfortunately and -- par for their course -- 2 of the rolls were the wrong carpet and the third was just enough to do the steps but not enough to do both landings. Par for their course! Just so sloppy. We spent another $1,600 with a carpet repair company that specializes in fixing carpet installation issues - hence my knowledge of many issues that I had not realized with the original installation. Hence the results described below. When installing, their lead bragged about all the experience he had in carpet installations. However, here is what my carpet repair expert found: (Lesson learned -- years of experience does not mean they know what they're doing). Used tack strips that were designed for concrete on my wood floors -- will not hold up to the stretching needed for heavy carpet such as mine. Used double tack strips throughout all rooms and door ways -- not necessary and caused lumps and ripples in doorways. Front stairs -- carpet runner was different sizes causing crooked and mis-aligned steps. Staples rather than tack strips on the steps - making many of the staples clearly visible and not evenly holding the carpet. Improper room transitions causing loose carpet and ripples because they never accounted for pile height differences between old and new carpets - leaving a tripping hazard. Transition wedges should have been used beneath the old carpet. Seams where carpet was not properly glued down and beginning to fray. See the pictures below. If you buy from Family Carpet -- find your own installers or be prepared to spend 15% more for others to come back and fix their installation.

LONG REVIEW! Unfortunately, we did not have a good experience with Family Carpet. The selection process went well and Mike was helpful when choosing a carpet. When he came out to measure, he was prompt and flexible. When Rodney came out to install, he asked if we were adding baseboard (which I had outside to paint). He mentioned the carpet was "short" but the baseboard would cover it. He also left with LOTS of extra carpet for us to "hold onto in case we needed patchwork done due to stains". After he left, my husband came home from work and noticed close to 1 inch gap on each side of the carpet which the baseboard would in fact NOT COVER. We could feel the tact strip throughout the whole room and even if we added out baseboard back in, nothing was secure enough that the carpet would not pull up. We also saw a string sticking out. When my husband tugged at it slightly, half of the carpet started ripping up. When we called family carpet to complain, Mike responded with "I don't know what you want me to do about it". We asked why we had so much carpet left when we were short in most of the area and he has no answer for that. We insisted someone come back out and fix it and he told us he didn't have anyone. We told him we refused to take another day off work for them to come out in the morning and they had to be flexible with us. When Rodney called my husband back, he told him "I told your wife I might need to come back to re-stretch the carpet" which is a complete LIE and probably the most frustrating part of the whole thing. He tried to pin this against me and have my husband question me (which he believed me). No one should have to "re-stretch" the carpet if installed correctly. When he finally came back out 5 days later, they had to pull the entire carpet up and relay it with a seam (which should have been done the first time). Rodney admitted to my husband it was his fault and he took full responsibility but this was after many calls, him lying to my husband about what he told me and lots of arguing for them to come out with a time that worked for us. I'm not sure if they thought they could get over on us since the "wife" was the one who was home during installment, but it was very unprofessional and the lying was the worst part. We paid $1,200 for carpet for a headache. We thought we would support a small business, but we will never return to family carpet again after their very unprofessional work. WE DO NOT RECOMMEND THIS TERRIBLE COMPANY TO ANYONE!

Had Family Carpet stretch my carpet and they did an incredible job. Put in extra tac strips and explained why my carpet was rolling up. It has stayed flat sense they worked their magic. When I get new carpet only Family Carpet will install. Others may be cheaper out of the gate but you will get what you pay for. In the end you will save with Family Carpet.
