1 month agoTwo stars. Good part: They were scheduled to arrive at 8 am, they arrived at 8:07. In this day and age, not too bad. The guys were nice too. Now the bad. They both stunk like cigarettes and/or weed...at 8 am!! And 10 minutes after arriving at the house the one guy used the restroom and no exaggeration he was in the john for 10 minutes while the other guy worked alone. Next, they said they'd wrap up the furniture and had the padding and wrap so I wouldn't need to supply it. Well they started with a couple things including my leather sofa and what they did is only wrapped the shrink wrap stuff around it. Please....that won't protect anything. So when I saw I mentioned are you going to use pads, they said, "oh you want us to use the pads?" I said yeah, to protect the furniture. So they added padding to the remaining furniture. But the leather sofa had a 1/2" scuff on the back top edge now, not terrible but it wasn't there prior, that I know. I have a heavy wood top and metal legged table, the guy started to turn it on it's top (standing it up tall) and put the weight of the table on the legs and yup, heard cracking and a couple pieces of wood broke off. It bent the leg frames and stripped the bolts. I had to go get longer bolts and a mallet to hammer down the bend and reinstall the bolts to the table. Anybody who knows about tables and moving should know you don't put the weight of the table on the legs. So $12 in parts later and an hour of my time I had my table fixed. Then there were my end tables. I told the guys I wrapped up the end tables but I had things in the drawers still so not to tip them. Well when they brought them into the new house they flipped one of the tables over and placed it on top of the other, making a mess of the contents in the 3 drawers, including my firearm that was in the gun safe. So that was a bit of a mess dealing with my overturned drawers. All in all, Chris, the owner needs to vet his workers better and train them properly. The two I got were not great at their jobs. -

FAQ
How does First Class Moving & Storage determine pricing for my move?
We base our pricing on an hourly labor rate with a two-and-a-half-hour minimum, plus a flat travel charge calculated by mileage to and from your locations. Additional costs only apply to packing materials and any optional supplemental insurance you choose to purchase. We provide free, no-obligation on-site estimates that are valid for up to 60 days, so you'll have a clear picture of costs before committing to your move.
Are you licensed and insured to handle my move?
First Class Moving & Storage operates under Illinois Commerce Commission regulations, which ensures compliance with state moving standards. We carry insurance coverage for your protection during the moving process. When you contact us for an estimate, we can provide specific details about our licensing and insurance coverage to give you complete peace of mind about your belongings.
What specific items can First Class Moving & Storage safely transport?
We handle a wide range of items including furniture, household goods, appliances, and specialty items like safes and electronics. Our crew specializes in careful packing and loading techniques tailored to different items-from fragile dishes and mirrors to large appliances and valuable equipment. We use furniture pads and shrink-wrap on all furniture, and we can disassemble and reassemble beds and other items as needed to protect everything during transport.
How far in advance should I schedule my move with you?
You should ideally schedule your move 1 to 4 weeks before your planned date, though we'll book moves with less notice as long as we have availability. If you're moving during peak periods like the end of the month or summer, scheduling 3 to 4 weeks in advance ensures you get your preferred date. Most local moves are completed in one day, though larger shipments may take two days depending on the volume of items being transported.
What does First Class Moving & Storage include in a standard local move?
Our standard local moving service includes furniture pads and shrink-wrap protection for all furniture, disassembly and reassembly of beds, loading all items onto the truck, transport to your new location, and unloading everything inside your home. We handle all the heavy lifting and placement of items at your destination. Additional services like full packing labor, packing materials, and storage solutions are available upon request if you need extra support beyond the core moving service.
Why should I hire professional movers instead of doing this myself?
Professional movers have the equipment, training, and experience to handle items safely and efficiently-reducing the risk of damage to your belongings and injury to yourself. We use proper techniques for wrapping, padding, and securing items, and we know how to navigate tight spaces, stairs, and difficult angles that can cause problems for untrained people. Our crew also completes moves faster than most DIY efforts, which means less disruption to your schedule and peace of mind knowing your items are in capable hands.
