4 months agoWe had a great experience with Independent Flooring! Ron in the store was great to work with. He answered all of my questions throughout the process and was always checking on how things were going. We did carpeting in bedrooms and LVP throughout the rest of the main level and everything looks amazing. The installers were great to work with as well and did a fantastic job. -

6 months agoWe had Independent Flooring do our Flooring 35 years ago and it lasted well. We replaced because of outdated colors and styles in the vinyl. We worked with Ron and we are extremely happy with our new flooring and with Ron. Would highly recommend them to anyone. -

6 months agoFrom the moment the contract was signed, the experience was disappointing. After paying a 50% deposit, I was left without clear communication on when the flooring would arrive or when installation would begin. Weeks later, I received a call at 6pm from the sales rep, Mitch, informing me that the flooring had arrived and the crew would begin the very next day. For a project of this size, some advance notice and proper scheduling should be expected. The contract was for approximately 1,000 sq ft of glue-down vinyl plank in our basement. On the first day, the crew installed about 200 sq ft, and the quality was unacceptable: large gaps between planks, uneven seams (no seam roller was ever used), and no coping or finish work around finished walls/Stone or obstacles. When I raised these concerns immediately, I was told they would be "taken care of". I asked for anyone from the office to come and take a look at the craftsmanship so they are aware of the quality of product they're putting out but no one came. Unfortunately, day two was no better. The planks were still installed with significant gaps, uneven seams, and uneven finished ends. Even after three separate attempts to correct their mistakes, the workmanship remained subpar. Their solution for not coping was to run a large, messy bead of caulk along the edges, which looked unprofessional, several spots of missed flooring entirely (corners) and still uneven seems (they did bring a heat gun to attempt to even out the seems but that was only effective in a small area). To make matters worse, the installers walked on wet glue, tracking it across the new flooring, leaving hardened glue smeared into the finished surface. At that point, I canceled the remainder of the contract for doors and trim, as I had no confidence they could deliver even a basic level of craftsmanship. The end result is sloppy, unprofessional, and far below industry standards. If you are considering this company for flooring installation, I strongly recommend rethinking that decision. Based on my experience, they lack the professionalism, skill, and attention to detail required for a quality job. -

FAQ
How does Independent Flooring determine pricing for flooring projects?
We determine pricing based on the type of flooring such as hardwood, carpet, laminate, luxury vinyl, or tile, along with the square footage, any required subfloor preparation, and removal of old materials. Custom elements like countertops or backsplashes add to the total based on design complexity and materials selected. We provide detailed quotes after an on-site measurement to ensure transparency on all costs involved.
Are you licensed and insured for flooring installations?
Independent Flooring carries full licensing and insurance to cover all our carpet, flooring, and tile installation work. This protects homeowners from liability in case of any issues during the project. We maintain up-to-date credentials as required for operations in Eau Claire and surrounding areas.
Does Independent Flooring handle tile installation for showers and fireplaces?
We handle tile installation for showers, fireplaces, countertops, and backsplashes with precision to ensure durable results. Our expertise covers selecting appropriate tiles and proper setting techniques to avoid common issues like chipping. During consultation, we discuss your specific layout to plan the best approach for a seamless finish.
What should I expect for scheduling and timelines with your flooring services?
We schedule projects after an initial consultation and provide clear start dates with arrival windows to fit your routine. Timelines vary by project size, such as a single room taking one to two days or larger homes requiring a week, depending on the flooring type like carpet or hardwood. We communicate any adjustments promptly to keep things on track.
What does Independent Flooring do with debris and cleanup after installation?
We remove all old flooring materials, debris, and waste from the site as part of every project. Our team leaves your home clean and ready for immediate use, vacuuming carpets or sweeping hard surfaces thoroughly. This includes hauling away trash to a proper disposal facility without leaving any mess behind.
Why is hiring you better than doing flooring installation as a DIY project?
Our professional approach uses specialized tools and techniques for precise cuts, leveling, and adhesion that prevent issues like splintering edges or chipped corners common in DIY attempts. We offer design consultation to match materials like luxury vinyl or tile to your space's needs, ensuring longevity and safety. Professionals handle subfloor prep and warranties that DIY lacks, saving you time and costly fixes later.
