8 years agoDuring the contracting process we felt the owner was sincere and made many promises as to the clean up daily of their work space, the movement of furniture and also quality. None of these promises were kept and then they tried to bill is for more square footage than they measured and as was stated in the contract. We actually eliminated over 200 square feet from the work - but they then disputed their own measurements. The floor removal process was horrible - a complete mess with them using our brooms, shop vac, and leaving their drink cups and trash in our house daily, and no blocking off of rooms they were not working on. Had we known they were going to pull up the old floor themselves without the right tools, we would have gone to someone else. Constant complaints from them that they did not have the right tools. In laying the new floor, they had re-lay so much of the new floor due to errors and uneven placement of the boards, we had to order more flooring. While they said they would show up at a certain time, it was often hours later and then they only worked two or three hours - with the installer leaving to work other jobs and leaving behind staff that had issues in key rooms like the kitchen - and then it had to be torn up and redone. Some of the floor rings hollow when you walk on it and other areas sound right. Chad the owner was never available to talk to us per his wife as he was busy - so we ended up trying to deal with their subcontractor for issues. Overall - buyer beware - any contract you have will be ignored and they are difficult to deal with. Installer was ok but was not here all the time. -

9 years agoIt went badly. The actual laying of the floor and floor itself are very nice. The staining is horrible. On three separate occasions, noone showed up to do the work. After they finally finished and left, I noticed large streaks, clumps of stain, bare spots on the thresholds. They said they would put the furniture back in the dining room and I found out why. When I moved my china cabinet to plug it in, I noticed that the area under it was not stained. The same was true of the table and hutch, the 3 pieces of furniture in that room. I have emailed and called several times. They keep telling me how busy they are but they will get to it. They started this project over a month ago. My home has been torn up that long. -

12 years agoI have floors that are 28 years old and they've kept them as pretty as the day they were put down. We've used them for almost 30 year and they were the original ones who installed the floors. They charge by the square foot. They will come right out and have always been been responsive and professional. -

12 years ago$10,000 Headline: They care about your floors but they don't care about you. Scenario: We had just bought our home and aimed to do an extensive remodeling ahead of moving in our stuff. Barry indicated that this could be accomplished in the eleven days between closing and the arrival of the moving van. We were prepared to enter into a contract before the closing, as we had with the painter (A New Leaf). The painter even called A&B to coordinate the work, but he got no response. Experience: The good: The floors turned out beautifully; the minor fixes were done promptly and there was virtually no dust in the finishing process. The other: We ended up having to live in our home while A&B did their work, which meant moving furniture and boxes and staying in boxes longer than would have been the case had the company done what they said they would do when Barry mad the sale. I asked that the work be staged over two phases so that we could lead somewhat normal lives. Rich had other ideas, so his guys moved things out of their way and into ours. They promised to return to put the furniture back in place once the job was finished, but that promise went unfulfilled like so many others. Another example was a promise to finish removing carpeting and padding from one of the rooms A&B was preparing for new flooring, noting that their truck was too full to take it all. When they didn't return, Mercury Carpet and Flooring (who care about both your floors and you) removed A&B's scraps without hesitation or fuss. Throughout, A&B's idea of scheduling was to call the day before they had decided to do their next stage of work to tell us they were coming--no courtesies such as "will this work for you?" The final two stages of finish work were done on a weekend--again their mandate. By this time, we were so eager to be rid of them that we accommodated without complaint. We were given 0800 for Saturday and it was strongly suggested that we vacate in order to avoid the noxious fumes. For Sunday, we were first given an 0900 start, around which we planned our day. That evening the contractor informed via text message that he would prefer to start at 8 again. When I pushed back reminding him of his 0900 commitment, he said he'd really rather start at 8. Barry made the sale and Rich managed the work. Whenever I called Rich to learn were we stood, he was blunt bordering on rude. There's more but I will stop here, because I've no wish to punish. Why would I hire them again? For two reasons: They did the original floor and were the only ones who could match the custom finish. The quality of the work is outstanding. Oh, one more thing...the last time Rich called it was to ask to be paid, not to ask if we were happy with the work. I paid him on the phone using a credit card and asked if we could have a quart of a version of the stain used on the floors that would work to give us a match on birch beadboard. He said he'd think about it. That was more than a week ago.

FAQ
Does A&B Flooring offer free estimates, and how do you figure out the cost of new carpet installation?
We provide project-specific quotes based on an in-person look at your space, including careful measuring of each room. Pricing is typically determined by the size of the area, the type of carpet you choose, any subfloor preparation needed, and whether we are also removing old flooring. We do the measuring and layout work up front so you know how much material and labor are involved before you commit. This helps you compare options and plan your budget for both residential and commercial carpet projects.
Are you licensed and insured for carpet and flooring work in my home or business?
We operate as a professional carpet and flooring contractor and maintain the appropriate credentials for this type of work. Because licensing and insurance requirements can vary by area, we are always willing to review our current documentation with you before any work begins. You can ask to see proof of insurance and any applicable licenses during the initial visit so you understand exactly who is working in your property. This protects you in case of accidents or damage during measuring, removal, or installation.
What kinds of carpet and flooring jobs does A&B Flooring handle, and do you take care of old flooring removal and subfloor prep?
We handle a full range of carpet and flooring projects for both homes and businesses, from single rooms to larger spaces. Our work typically includes removing existing flooring, preparing and inspecting subfloors, and then measuring, cutting, and installing the new carpet. We focus on making sure the subfloor is suitable and clean so the finished carpet lays flat and wears well. We also move through the project in an organized way so your space is left ready for use when the installation is complete.
How long will my carpet installation take, and what should I expect with your schedule and arrival times?
A&B Flooring plans the schedule based on the size and complexity of your project, including how much old flooring needs to be removed and how much subfloor preparation is required. We discuss the expected start date, daily work hours, and approximate completion time with you before work begins. Because flooring work can sometimes uncover subfloor issues, we also explain how any unexpected conditions might affect the timeline. You can expect us to outline what areas we will work in each day so you can plan around the installation as easily as possible.
How does A&B Flooring handle daily cleanup and debris, and what condition will my home be left in after installation?
We plan our carpet installation so that debris from old flooring, carpet scraps, and packaging is gathered as we work rather than left scattered around your home. At the end of the job, we sweep or vacuum the work area, pick up loose materials, and organize any remaining items you need to keep. Our goal is to leave the rooms tidy and ready for you to move furniture back in and start using the space. If there are any items that need special disposal or handling, we discuss that with you in advance so nothing is left unexpectedly.
Why is having your team install my carpet safer and more effective than doing it myself?
We handle precise measuring, cutting, and seaming so the carpet fits properly without gaps, ripples, or premature wear spots. Our installers know how to check and prepare subfloors, which helps prevent problems like soft spots, squeaks, or uneven areas under the new carpet. We also use proper tools and techniques for stretching and securing the carpet, which reduces trip hazards and extends the life of the flooring. By managing removal, preparation, installation, and cleanup, we limit disruption to your home and help avoid mistakes that can be expensive to fix later.
