1 month agoWe had an excellent experience working with James Dietz and Nelson Tile and Stone. We came in looking for a piece of granite to create a custom dining table, and the selection was incredible. James really listened to what we were trying to accomplish, took the time to explore different options with us, and walked us through estimates while keeping our goals front and center. We ultimately purchased a gorgeous piece of stone and it turned out absolutely stunning, it truly makes the space. Chris and the installation team was just as impressive: great communication, professional, and they did an incredible job from start to finish. Highly recommend Nelson Tile and Stone if you're looking for quality stone, expert guidance, and a great overall experience. -

3 months agoExcellent experience from start to finish. James and his team helped me choose beautiful quartz and tile from their beautiful showroom in Bend, OR and Chris-the owner-handled all the laser measurements himself and helped with the countertop installation. Everything turned out perfect. Highly recommend them to anyone building or remodeling! -

5 months agoI will start off by saying that we do love our countertops, sink, garbage disposal, and air switch now that they are completed, however the process was not enjoyable and was stressful. For starters, they require you to bring measurements, a drawing of your countertops, and pictures to the very first "estimate" meeting at their showroom. My husband graphed out the drawing and measurements pretty much perfectly and we walked through it with the sales rep, Kelsey. She also made a copy of it, and I emailed the measurements, drawing, and images over to her as well. We then borrowed a handful of samples to take home which they only let you borrow for 24 hours. Once we selected a sample, we received a quote of $6,041 which we agreed to after some back and forth. Once you agree, they require a 50% deposit, which we paid. After you pay the deposit, they schedule you for a "templating" appointment to get exact measurements. Before they come to template, which is roughly 10 days before installation, they require your countertops to be demoed which also means you need to remove the kitchen sink and faucet. We demoed the countertops ourselves to save $2,000. When the owner, Chris, showed up, he realized that a huge portion of our main countertop was missing from the original estimate that we agreed to. They missed approximately $3,400 worth of countertop which was very upsetting given that we provided the measurements, drawing, and images before hand and we agreed to the original estimate of $6,041 (knowing that this could be slightly up or down given the templating). We felt trapped because we had already paid the 50% deposit ($3,009) and we were living with no kitchen countertops, sink, or faucet for 10 days already. The new estimate was $9,459. We feel this could have been avoided if they had someone come out to do proper measurements for the estimate, before templating. Once we received the new estimate via email, my husband and I re-measured and double checked every inch to compare and they were still off in some areas. I replied with the discrepancies and asked some questions to make sure that we were understanding everything. Instead of responding to each question, she just replied with another updated estimate/drawing. This was frustrating as this was not a cheap project, and we wanted to make sure that it was going to be installed accurately to the proper measurements and cut outs for appliances. After deciding to move forward because we felt like we had no choice at this point, they required us to pay the $1,637 difference for the 50% deposit of the new estimate before they installed. When it came to installation day, the installers were one hour late and when they left at 5pm, they forgot to bring/provide the new garbage disposal and air switch that we were having installed the very next morning at 8am by a plumbing company (I was at work while they were installing and didn't get home until 5:15pm so I wasn't aware that we were missing the items until I got home and Nelson Tile was already closed). Since Nelson Tile & Stone doesn't open until 9am, I wasn't able to reach anyone until then and let them know that we were missing those items. They had someone drop it off at my house to the plumbers while I was at work and then the plumbers notified me that we were still missing the garbage disposal air switch (Nelson Tile forgot it a second time). I had to call them again and they had to have someone run it over before the plumbers left. After everything, I had to reach back out because they left a large gap underneath our counters in some areas which they had someone come back out two days later to caulk. We also weren't super stoked about the 2x4 that they used as a brace underneath one part of our countertop (see images provided). Overall, we feel they lacked communication, organization, attention to details, and managing expectations. Probably won't use them again after this experience.

FAQ
How does Nelson Tile and Stone determine pricing for my project?
We start by understanding your project scope, material selections, and budget during an initial showroom visit. After that consultation, we schedule a walk-through of your space to assess the work needed, then provide a detailed quote based on labor, materials, and any fabrication required. Our typical project costs range from $1,000 to $150,000 depending on the complexity and materials chosen. There's no obligation during the estimate process-we focus on listening to your goals before presenting pricing.
Are you licensed and insured?
Nelson Tile and Stone operates under CCB License 178322 in Oregon. We maintain the proper licensing and insurance required to handle kitchen and bathroom remodels, tile installation, countertop fabrication, and demolition work across Central Oregon. You can verify our credentials through the Oregon Construction Contractors Board, and we're happy to provide proof of insurance before any work begins.
Can Nelson Tile and Stone handle custom tile work like shower surrounds and accent walls?
We specialize in comprehensive tile installation across all applications-shower surrounds, shower pans, bathroom and kitchen floors, backsplashes, accent walls, wainscots, and even ceiling tile. Our in-house installers have over 20 years of experience working with porcelain, natural stone, and ceramic materials. Whether you're updating a single bathroom or reimagining an entire home, we handle the design consultation, material selection from our showroom, and professional installation.
How long does a typical kitchen or bathroom remodel take?
Nelson Tile and Stone manages the entire timeline from design through installation, which varies based on project scope. A straightforward bathroom remodel with new tile and fixtures typically takes several weeks, while a full kitchen renovation with countertops, cabinetry, and tile can extend longer. During your initial consultation and walk-through, we provide a realistic project schedule and keep you informed of any adjustments. Our project managers coordinate all phases-demolition, fabrication, installation-to minimize disruption to your home.
What happens to debris and old materials when Nelson Tile and Stone removes my old countertops or tile?
We handle interior demolition as part of our full-service approach, which includes proper removal and disposal of old materials. Our team manages the cleanup process throughout the project to keep your home as tidy as possible during the remodel. We coordinate debris removal so you don't have to worry about hauling away old countertops, tile, cabinets, or fixtures. Once installation is complete, we leave your space clean and ready to enjoy.
Why should I hire a professional instead of attempting tile or countertop installation myself?
Professional tile and countertop installation requires specialized skills-precise measurements, proper substrate preparation, correct sealing techniques, and knowledge of different materials' unique needs. Mistakes in layout, grout application, or stone sealing can lead to water damage, cracking, or premature wear. We bring laser measurement technology, in-house fabrication capabilities, and 20+ years of hands-on experience to ensure your investment lasts decades. Our design team also helps you select materials that work for your space and lifestyle, something difficult to navigate alone.
