4 years agoI had my basement finished by Armando and his crew. The first red flag was the "proposal". It wasn't a typical quote. It had a low range and a high range, with no way of knowing exactly what the final cost would be (the high range estimate of $15-16k was actually wound up to be more than $25,000- HUGE difference!). Then, it took a full two months to finish due to promises like, "We'll be there tomorrow", or "We'll finish it up by New Years'", or "We'll be there this weekend", or it might have rained, the truck broke down, or any number of excuses, but rarely did I get a call saying, "We won't be there after all". I can't count the number of times I rearranged my day or weekend only to have no one show up at all. The customer service was horrendous. So was the spin-doctoring. So, was the work done well? Well, yes- despite the excuses, I'm thrilled with most of the work. It's the last thing that was the final straw. I had two barn doors installed between the mud room and the basement entertainment area. Love the doors, hate the way they were installed. The crew screwed two boards as a guide which looked horrible, and one of the (new) doors was warped toward the bottom and when they were closed, there was a significant gap between the two at the bottom. This was spin-doctored to me as my floor isn't level. That may be, but the door is also warped, but okay. Then maybe take this into consideration or do the right thing and select another door? After paying him the remainder, I asked him to come back and fix the issue. I ordered two doors with 5 sets of metal guides so the strips of wood (a trip hazard, as they run more than the entire width of the opening) could be removed. Armando said he would pick them up and be here the following weekend. Never showed. Of course. A two man crew arrived the following Thursday with the doors and the guide. They took one door out and decided they couldn't cut them down because I had chosen a style with glass panels. My ceilings in the basement are less than 84", so they needed to be trimmed down. As with a few other things, we suspect they just didn't want to do it, as my son-in-law explained to them how it could be done. They were here for about 8 hours (I was told it would be one hour, but okay). They seemed to have problems figuring out how to use the guides effectively. The head crewman told me it was because not only was my floor slightly sloped, but one of the doors was warped (as I had told them over and over). So they decided on another tack. They left for several hours and when I went downstairs, there they were with a plank of wood. I had no idea they were going to cut it larger than the existing wood strip! smh So now the issue is even bigger, even worse than before. Problem 1- for some inexplicable reason, they chose red oak for the new strips and what might as well have been a red stain. My floors are a rustic mix of light/dark grays and browns with some cream. Awesome floor. I was told the color would tone down when it dried. Nope. Never happened. The strips are red. They'll stay red unless they're sanded down and re-stained (or removed and something else properly installed). What were they thinking??? Problem 2- instead of filling all the screw holes in the flooring (the previous screws were drilled into concrete like the new ones) with a matching putty, there are putty colored holes all over the floor between these two strips of wood. This will necessitate replacing some flooring. Which I don't have. When the floor was installed, they took away whatever planks were left over. Problem 3- instead of filling the holes in the wood and wiping off the excess putty, it looks like they smeared it on and just slapped stain on top. So now of course I have these hideous areas that look like a child went wild with a paintbrush and Silly Putty. I checked the color of these wood strips every day waiting for the miracle that was supposed to occur where the red stain would magically lighten up and somehow those crazy putty spots would darken. Never happened. It's red. Some areas are shiny, some are light, but the color is red. Will I go back to Armando yet again? Nope. Never again. I'd rather have back to back colonoscopies every day for a month. Between the excuses, the spin-doctoring, the no-shows and the inability to correct their mistakes properly, I don't know how the company stays in business. -

4 years agoThey took months to finish. They would work a day , then not show up for a week. Very random and unprofessional. Also Armando would knock on my door and ask me for advances on money, he said to pay his crew. I would never hire him again. They took 3 months to finish. -

6 years agoConstruction went fairly well until a rushed finish completion. The Contractor (Armando Castaneda) failed to correct some crooked posts and install missing deck screws. They would not come back after being paid. A lot less than A Quality.

FAQ
Does A Quality Restoration Services offer free estimates for roofing or siding projects?
We provide detailed proposals with a low and high range based on the scope of work, such as roof repairs, siding installation, or deck building, to give you a clear picture of potential costs. These estimates factor in materials, labor, and site-specific details like accessibility and project size. Contact us to schedule a visit and discuss your Louisville-area project needs.
Are you licensed and insured for handyman and remodeling work?
A Quality Restoration Services carries the necessary licensing and insurance to handle concrete work, fencing, painting, and interior remodeling safely across Louisville and surrounding areas. We ensure coverage protects your property and our crew during every job. Our established presence since 2012 supports our commitment to meeting local regulations.
Does A Quality Restoration Services handle roof replacements and house exterior restoration as shown in your photos?
We specialize in roof replacements, including shingle installation and gutter restoration, as well as full house exterior projects like siding and decking. Our before-and-after work demonstrates transformations on Louisville homes, tackling details from concrete foundations to custom painting. These services cover everything our crew has expertise in since starting operations.
What should I expect for timelines and scheduling on your remodeling projects?
We outline realistic timelines upfront, accounting for factors like weather that can affect outdoor tasks such as roofing or deck building. Our crew shows up prepared each scheduled day to maintain steady progress on room additions or fencing installations. Delays are communicated promptly, with adjustments made to finish what we start.
Does A Quality Restoration Services handle cleanup and debris removal after deck or concrete work?
We manage daily cleanup to keep your property safe and tidy, removing debris from roofing, siding, or interior remodeling activities. This includes hauling away waste materials and ensuring surfaces are cleared of nails or dust at the end of each day. Your home is left in good condition, ready for use right after we complete the job.
Why is hiring you for painting or fencing better than doing it as a DIY project?
Our approach focuses on the details others overlook, like precise measurements for custom fencing or proper surface prep for painting that prevents future peeling. We use proven methods for safe installations on decks or roofs, avoiding common DIY errors such as uneven concrete pours or unstable structures. Professional tools and experience ensure longevity and code compliance without the risks of personal injury or costly fixes.
