Worst HVAC company ever. They are currently working to replace my compressor on ac under warranty. Has taken them over 2 months and still no compressor. 2 weeks to call back, 1 week to schedule appt, 2 weeks to order & receive conpressor, received wrong compressor, re-ordered compressor. Said they would expedite it. It has now been 3 more weeks for the expedited replacement compressor. No call back. No follow up. Nothing. Just called to check today at 3 pm. Already gone for the day. If it could give negative stars I would.

I have used Stivers for over 10 years. They serviced my furnace, replaced my air conditioning unit, and rerouted ductwork. They use to do an excellent job. However, the service man attempted to scam me during the last furnace check. The service technician that came to inspect and service the furnace informed me that the furnace was blowing out carbon monoxide gas and I needed a new furnace. I have wired smoke and carbon monoxide detectors on each floor and in the garage. So I asked him why the alarms had not gone off, why the furnace was still blowing air and where was it leaking. The technician said that the pipe was cracked so he shut off the gas, red tagged the furnace, and turned the blower on high. The blower was blowing cold air and it was cold outside. He then told me that he could install a new furnace for $3,500 but he had to do the job that day or he wouldn't be able to get back for several weeks. I thanked him and declined having the furnace replaced. When he left, I called the gas company. They came immediately. They found no problems with the furnace. The pipe was not cracked and there was no sign of a carbon monoxide leak. They suggested that I call another heating company for a second opinion. I called another company. They came checked and rechecked the furnace. They could not find any cracks or leaks and the flame was the correct color. The furnace is still running perfectly. I am appalled that the technician they sent attempted to scam me. I sent the owner, Rick Stivers, an email describing what his technician had done. What I received from them was a bill for an additional $12.00 for the furnace filter. Rick, has never bothered to contact me and apologize. I am a senior citizen and want to warn other seniors about this company's practices.

Yes, I recommend this pro. When I bought the home, the inspection people said it had a split in it, and they shut the system off completely. My son was working next door to them. I called them, and they installed the furnace. A very reasonable price. At that time the gas company was offering an $400 discount. I got an high efficiency furnace for $2000. Yes, if I needed to use them.

$84 Service Provider was fairly prompt however highly unprofessional. He didn't ask many questions, only looked at the heat pump directly without observing the rest of the system. He seemed in a hurry to look at it, figure it out and move on. He also SMOKED while on my property, without my permission on my property and left his lighter on my heat pump after he left. At the end of the service call he told me my "compressor is grounded" without giving any further explanation beyond that. I asked what that meant and said it means I have to replace my compressor. No, how does a compressor become "grounded", what does that really mean. Nothing. I have a one year warranty through ball homes, but of course if this was installed incorrectly that caused the problem then it is something that should be covered anyway since I can't imagine how a 2 year old system would have bad electrical. Stivers would have been the company to install the unit in the first place. Overall I simply found it to be a highly unprofessional experience and will by looking at other quotes.

With the new air conditioner and furnace, they weren't the lowest. But, they were close. They're average in pricing. I didn't have to clean up after them at all. That's a good thing.

FAQ

How does Stivers HVAC determine pricing for repairs and installations?

We provide custom quotes based on your specific situation rather than using one-size-fits-all pricing. Our technicians will assess your system, discuss your budget and comfort needs, and explain the options available to you. For installations, we perform load calculations to ensure you get the right-sized unit for your home, which affects both performance and cost. We aim to deliver quality service at affordable prices, and we're transparent about what you're paying for.

Are you licensed, insured, and how can I verify your credentials?

Stivers HVAC has been BBB Accredited since 1992 and has over 30 years of experience serving the Lexington area. Our technicians are NATE-certified, meaning they've demonstrated their knowledge of heating, cooling, and ventilation systems. You can verify our standing through the Better Business Bureau or contact us directly at 859-226-0809 to discuss our credentials and experience with your specific needs.

Does Stivers HVAC handle both furnace and air conditioning work, or do you specialize?

We handle the full range of heating and cooling services for both residential and commercial customers. Our team services furnaces, air conditioners, heat pumps, and ductwork. We're experienced with modern Energy Star certified systems as well as older units, and we're the largest Trane dealer in Central Kentucky. Whether you need repair, maintenance, or a complete system replacement, we can help.

What should I expect in terms of scheduling and how quickly can you arrive?

Stivers HVAC offers 24/7 emergency services for urgent heating and cooling issues, so you're not left without comfort during extreme weather. For routine service and installations, we work to schedule appointments that fit your availability. Our service trucks are stocked with commonly needed parts, which means we typically complete most repairs on the first visit to your home or business, minimizing disruption to your day.

What does Stivers HVAC do with debris and how will my home look after service?

We clean up after ourselves and leave your home in good condition. Homeowners have noted that they didn't have to clean up after our work, which is a standard part of our professional service. Whether we're performing maintenance, repairs, or a full installation, we respect your space and ensure the job site is left neat and organized.

Why should I hire a professional instead of attempting HVAC work myself?

HVAC systems are complex and require specialized knowledge to diagnose and repair safely. Improper installation or repair can lead to inefficiency, higher utility bills, safety hazards, and voided warranties. Our NATE-certified technicians have the training and tools to identify root causes, not just symptoms, and ensure your system operates at peak performance. Professional maintenance also catches small issues before they become expensive problems, ultimately saving you money.
